Can staff refuse to let you through a barrier when abandoning a journey?

Yes, but presumably advance tickets on the services I mentioned follow a similar pricing strategy?

Can staff refuse to let you through a barrier when abandoning a journey?

There is a reason for this restriction, although it wouldn't particularly matter in this case. On some journeys (for example to Mid-Wales or stations North of Preston on the WCML) an off-peak fare from Euston can apply at the classic peak times, meaning it is a common (and disallowed) trick to...

King’s Cross rail tunnels get improved phone coverage

I mean even the physical masts, power supplies, etc?

King’s Cross rail tunnels get improved phone coverage

Virgin West Coast did exactly that, and it seems to have survived on the Avanti ones too this day - repeaters in the carriages. But other than that, pretty much any tunnel on the network, and many cuttings, could do with improvement. It's strange the GSM-R infrastructure can't be shared with...

    Stations with roads inside

London Waterloo has "Cab Road" (basically just for taxis) up to the high level, that's under the station shelter? Main Waterloo road is below it.

NRE - North Downs Line November Closure.

There's enough track from the 1940s around on some lines - let alone 1970s! Continuously welded rail from the latter era lasts pretty well on relatively low-speed and low-intensity lines, 50 years sounds about right?

Euston departure board to be moved

If only the National Rail Enquiries app was actually any good, in theory the vast majority of passengers would have their own personal departure board in their pocket, making screens on the concourse fairly superfluous.. Perhaps the assumption of Euston management? Alas, although the data is...

    London's Worst Station

Perhaps a bit off-topic, but I have to question why the British Transport Police weren't patrolling in these historic circumstances?

    London's Worst Station

One doth protest as to temperature control and staff availability! Frozen in winter, barbecued in summer - and that's if you can even find staff who don't only want to give you a nice big penalty fare.. (or a regular fare, which are practically the same thing on that part of the network)

    London's Worst Station

I would argue it becomes worst just through the sheer number of people who are forced to interact with it! At least some lesser-known halts have an excuse..

    London's Worst Station

I can't think of many major stations where they've turned the main departure board into just a massive advertising display! Let alone the "Euston scrum", gateline/revenue staff attitudes, and all we've heard over the years..

    LnW/TfW Only Shrewsbury -> Euston

I did once have a member of staff on a TfW service between Shrewsbury and Crewe challenge me on this due to their handheld device claiming it's not a valid route, but they seemed to give me the benefit of the doubt when I highlighted the text of the restriction did not appear to preclude it? I...

    Charging benches at Waterloo station

They do indeed seem to have disconnected absolutely every single one of them (I checked pretty much every one in the station when my phone was out of charge, can see the former cables just hanging in mid-air) - there used to be wireless chargers on some of the tables too. Couldn't get any...

    Identifying Suspicious Individuals

Given the current atmosphere of international relations, and the fact terrorist attacks aren't exactly uncommon in that part of London, I'm not sure those who might report could necessarily be called not "rational people" conversely?
