I’ve told you what will happens when you put the ball back in the court of the RDG / DFT. If you think it’s as simply as ASLEF putting in a counter offer and it being accepted you’re living in cloud cuckoo land! The DFT know what offer will settle the dispute. They done it with the RMT.

We may not be costing them anything to strike but we are costing the economy. That brings a lot of other sectors into the dispute who will heap more pressure on the government to resolve. You simply can’t continue to call a days strike once every few months. Thats simply not achieving anything...

But it puts a huge amount of pressure on the government to resolve. One day strikes now and again have absolutely no effect, they need to do something that has a bigger financial impact.

But the pressure it would receive from other sectors would be immense. Announce a strike now for the duration of August and you’d decimate tourism and retail.

Because the amount it would cost the economy billions plus the amount the government would have to hand over to TOCs in compensation.
