    Portishead approved

Councillor Bell presented the report to members noting that the council expected to submit the full business case to the Department for Transport in February 2024. A further report would be brought back to Council in the summer of 2024 with a view to funding being finalised and allowing...

Passenger loading late at night on rural branches

Back in 1969/70 I attended a FA cup replay Crewe v Doncaster and caught a newspaper train from Manchester Piccadilly to Doncaster which was routed via Woodhead and Barnsley. It had one passenger coach and from memory I was the only passenger on the train. Arrival in Doncaster was about 3.00 am.

    Portishead approved

As a resident of Portishead Dr Fox won't be getting my vote! The Conservatives lost control of North Somerset Council in 2019 to a coalition and failed to regain control in the elections this year. There still seems to be some work taking place on the existing trackbed into Portishead.

    Why the Portishead Delay?

North Somerset Council's response to the SOS's letter is now on the planning inspectorate's website.

    Why the Portishead Delay?

Interestingly planning officers have just overruled North Somerset Council's decision not to approve the proposed extension to Bristol Airport. The Council's refusal was on environmental grounds.

    Why the Portishead Delay?

It's only a small number very close to the site of the proposed new station who seem to have objected. I think you are correct, that based on experience elsewhere, in most cases house prices are likely to increase. The other concern voiced by objectors is parking given that many of the houses...

    Why the Portishead Delay?

Most of the small number of objectors appeared to be house owners close to line in Portishead. I think their concern was more motivated by the effect on house prices than environmental issues. Given that the houses and indeed the school were all built knowing the reopening of the line was a...

    Why the Portishead Delay?

Speaking as a resident of Portishead the reasons given for the 6 month delay make no sense at all. None of the environmental groups in the area are opposed to the reopening and the overgrowth on the line has been regularly cleared most recently in the last month. If it takes this long to get...

I travelled on a special to Wembley Central from St Helens Shaw Street in 1976 via Ince Moss Curve.

    Trivia: Elongated/Indirect Services

After Leeds. It is also routed via Castleford between York and Leeds so needs to reverse at Leeds.

    Trivia: Elongated/Indirect Services

Don't know. Can't be any problems with capacity on the normal route via Huddersfield at the present time.

    Trivia: Elongated/Indirect Services

Redcar to Manchester Airport trains under the current key workers timetable and running via Wakefield Kirkgate and then the Calder Valley route

    Northern Class 195: Initial Diagrams

Currently on 11.20 from Burnley to York which is a two coach 158. Very full as the previous York train was cancelled. The 11.03 to Blackpool was a 150/2 so no sign of a 195 yet!
