Cost of rail travel between Maze Hill and Paddington changing at Farringdon and using SE Trains and Elizabeth Line

Hi Kilopylae, Thanks very much for the explanation. Are you able to direct me to an explanation of NR-T fares? I googled but couldn't find anything. Many thanks

Cost of rail travel between Maze Hill and Paddington changing at Farringdon and using SE Trains and Elizabeth Line

I don't understand how this fare is calculated. I've been using https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/find-fares/tube-and-rail-fares/single-fare-finder and... Maze Hill to Paddington is £4.70 (off-peak). Maze Hill to Farringdon is £3.10. Farringdon to Paddington is £2.50. Why is Maze Hill to Farringdon...

    GCR Bridge Project

Thanks. Good point re room for a full-length train coming off MR metals. I'm only a layman and it sounds like you know more than me but as per the below satellite view, it seems to me that there is room for a junction before the bridge - especially given that a single-track bridge could be bang...

    GCR Bridge Project

Hi, I understand that the new bridge will be double-track: one track joining the chord from the Midland Main Line and one track leading to Loughborough GC station with the two tracks joining north of the new bridge. However why couldn't the new bridge have been single-track with the two tracks...

Trivia: unwritten etiquette as a railway passenger

    Wensleydale Railway... Current goings-on?

I don't think that the bridge was destroyed by a flood, it was demolished by British Rail. Regards 1649137608 A separate company has been set up: https://upperwensleydalerailway.org.uk. Regards

Track connection between Greenwich line and line to London Charing Cross

No, trains to Rainham via Greenwich will have turned left at the junction protected by signal 2667 - see the opentraintimes diagram provided by swt_passenger above. In theory, they could go straight on at this junction and still reach the Greenwich line but they'd then interfere with Thameslink...

Track connection between Greenwich line and line to London Charing Cross

Thanks for your reply. You're right that Thameslink services from Greenwich to London Bridge turn left at the junction protected by 2744. However I'm wondering what trains would ever go straight on at this junction (or use the section that's straight ahead in the opposite direction). Regards

Track connection between Greenwich line and line to London Charing Cross

Hi, Slightly related, I've never understood what trains use the two sections of track near NKE junction that I've circled in red in the attached - can somebody explain? I don't believe that they're in regular use. Many thanks

Trivia — Lines That Were Built For Double Track But Were Only Ever Single

I believe that some or all of The Wensleydale Railway was build with space for two tracks beneath the under bridges but with space for only one track on the over bridges. Regards

West Riding train services in 1964 - a map

A really good map. A minor quibble is that where you have blobs, it's not always obvious what the through routes through the blob are. For example, Shipley: which of Leeds-Bradford, Leeds-Skipton and Skipton-Bradford are through routes? I'm guessing that it's possible to travel Leeds-Bradford...

Can I use Contactless at Luton Airport Parkway?

I'll be travelling from Maze Hill. I've seen that this will be made available at LAP but I wasn't sure whether it was available yet. I called National Rail and they said that I can but only if I tap out and back in at a central London station which doesn't seem correct. Many thanks
