Is the order not going to be with Agility Trains rather than Hitachi?

[Off-Topic Rant] I know that Class 700 is going to be the Thameslink stock number, but I hate it, because it doesn't make any sense! No, it does make sense but it's stupid. [/Rant over]
On the topic of FGW, the Government is to extend the franchise from April to June next year because they are so behind on refranchising.
If Third Rail is on the way out (and nothing has been built as *exclusively* Third Rail for some time) then the whole classification system for EMUs may need to be revised
So FGW *are* to have an extended contract, after trying to hand the keys back early?

I thought this extra month for FGW was being proposed not because DfT are behind with the process, but because the original dates clash with the next Reading blockade? Can't remember where I saw it though...
(The next blockade being when the big track slew happens to bring the four new relief line platforms into use.)

Step 1) Make carriage numbers longer than set numbers so they no longer conflict with locos.
This would require a replacement of the current very elderly TOPS.
If so, I'd suggest simply making carriage numbers two digits longer than unit numbers. For instance, the third carriage of unit 34 of class 390 would simply be 39003403

Yes that's right, the Invitation to Tender has not been published yet, only the franchise consultation. The ITT continues to be delayed.I have seen people talk about this invitation to tender document but I can only find the franchise consulation. The invitation to tender itself doesn't seem to be available to the public at this time.

I wonder, and think that this may well be a case of the FGW Franchise being extended by an extra month, and now extended onto July because of the DfTs incompetant c*ck up, sorry Delay in issuing the ITT?
is anyone beginning to wonder if the wires might be up before there are any trains to use them?
