Contact of mine is a driver for c2c, and has just posted this on his Twitter account.

"8 car train all day. 4 car stop boards suspended. The few 4 cars we are running will stop at the 8 mark. Upminster and (southend) Central will be hell!"

Is this an incentive by c2c to get people fit for the Olympics by making them run for trains by stopping them further along the platform?

What is being achieved by doing this?

Sounds as if they want to avoid any driver making a mistake and stopping their 8 car train at the 4 car mark and releasing the doors.
Good plan i say, last thing they want is to have drivers off track during this period

Virtually no trains will be 4-car, and drivers used to a certain service having 4 will stop at the correct mark rather than have a safety incident with 4 hanging out the back.

Good planning to my mind.

I believe it is to make passengers move along the platform. For example at West Ham and Barking it means the crowds move away from the steps to the platforms which must be viewed as a safety measure.

Correct answers, it's to prevent driver error so during the Olympic games this will be the case with all 4 car trains. I was helping out at West Ham last night and we only had two 4 car trains so just directed people to stand further up the platforms in preparation.

The 4-car stop board at Barking platform 8 had been covered over this morning.
