Don't forget, there were 50,000 people at the equestrian event today, with 30,000 of those expected to head to London Bridge for interchange with other NR services and LU. That's quite a lot of people to mix in with the rush hour commuting traffic, which is bad enough on its own.

Seems to be zero pressure at St Pancras for the Javelin service. No issues whatsover.

Empty seats on the Central line from Leyton this am peak.

Did it not finish around 5pm though? Surely part of the crowd would have made it back by now but London Bridge still reported as quiet.

Hearing that much of London has been very quiet since last week. Lots of reports of that on twitter. Not just public transport but roads and restaurants, pubs etc. Not good if the govt are hoping it will increase GDP substantially. I will be central in a couple of days to see for myself. Hopefully it will be quiet but with a happy, holiday type atmosphere.

Very much so , almost just ticking over - roads surprisingly empty , buses with seats galore , hardly any queuing in Tesco at lunchtime. Don't know where these extra 2m visitors are- maybe holed up in front of TV sets.

Decent enough atmosphere , plenty of staff and helpers at KX and SP - checked out the Javelin flows tonight, the passenger holding areas 100% unused.

Of course , various sections have various pressure - but today was London Bridges day - (seems to have coped well)

The schools are off now aren't they? In my experience, August was always the best month with less traffic on the roads, people off on holiday etc.

District line is still suspended on the Wimbledon branch, which will cause issues for those coming back from the tennis this evening.

I suspect a lot of regular commuters are on holiday at the moment or decided to take today off as part of a long weekend. The bigger test will be during the parlympics in early september as the commuters will all be back to work & schools restarting. There is generally a noticable increase in passengers during September.

My 84 bus in Potters Bar was 5 minutes early this morning which is very unusual!

How long until people start complaining we spent too much preparing the transport for the Olympics I wonder
I have been asking the same questions. London Underground on a regular basis copes with huge passenger flows on a daily basis and station control (limiting access in a number of ways) only being used as a last resort. In comparison NR seems to take things to extremes. I think both National Rail and LU services though seem to be taking precautions, but I've not noticed much need for things. Example queueing system for Javelin services at St Pancakes even though the services were no busier than normal middle of the day services, let alone evening peaks!

I've also noticed that in comparison to London Underground, the Tocs/Network Rail seem to be looking a bit amateur. A few staff in a random hotchpotch of uniforms and random coloured high visibility jackets shouting and looking very unorganised.

Somewhere, not in London

Thanks, just when I'm going to be looking at moving down to London for work it's when it's going to be busiest... Yay(!)...

In contrast the DLR has been rammed - especially this evening with the Excel emptying out..

I think the crowds will start cranking up though for when the Athletics starts.

I caught the Cambridge train from Potters Bar yesterday. it was an 8 coach train and there were at least 3 BTP officers standing in every doorway. They all got off at Hatfield - there must have been at least 50 of them on the platform.
I think they are using the university for accommodation & it was the end of their shift.

I have never seen so many police on the same train before!

It appeared a passenger train had to be evacuated and then needed to cool down at Leyton as an axle box became rather warm (as you and others may have gathered from the update to the BBC report). After it was moved (presumably to Hainault, but possibly Leytonstone sidings, I suppose), severe delays continued until around 1215hrs, with further, more minor delays ongoing.

Quite an incident if it's between Stratford and Ashford! Surely they could have been a little more specific, especially if trains are actually running up to Ebsfleet from Ashford.

I should imagine that unfortunately it would be a rather large mess if the trespasser gets hit... and no doubt a rather big site security problem! The whole sorry story isn't on NRE yet, although the problem is implied by Ebbsfleet International's LDB (http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/ldbboard/dep/EBD).

What with that problem at Otford earlier, and also c2c having issues at Dagenham Dock, it's not looking good on London's rail connections today (this being aside from the Central Line recovering from its earlier suspension at Leyton, a fire alarm going off at Heathrow Terminals 1, 2 and 3 and, to cap it all, disruption to services towards London from the Arun Valley earlier).

Suicidal person on the line near Dagenham.

Am I right in thinking this is the cause of the c2c disruptions at Dagenham Dock, too? Edit: NRE now think so, and have taken the slightly unusual step of confirming that trains are unable to move at all through the area.

Yes. It seems the person is on the c2c line at Dagenham Dock, but because that line runs so close to HS1, they've closed SE lines as a precaution.

I was slightly confused, when SE said there was a trespass incident between Stratford Int'l and Ebbsfleet Int'l. It's near impossible to get onto that stretch of line! Most of it's deep underground, high up on bridges or bordered by high metal fences.

I wonder if the apparent lack of the expected large crowds isnt partly due to the fact that some of the people going to events would have otherwise been going to work, reducing the net effect.

Is it just me, or do I see a signalling problem affecting Southeastern in the Cannon Street area? LDBs say no. JourneyCheck says yes. Hmmm...

http://www.journeycheck.com/southeastern

Also, I am hearing that a person has just been removed from Tooting Bec station on the Northern Line after briefly causing it to be part-suspended between Morden and Kennington. Apparently he or she started making death threats and talking about having weaponry or a suspicious item or something.

Edit: OK - I'm correct - there are delays of around 20 minutes (plus alterations) to services starting/terminating at Cannon Street. LDBs and NRE say so, too, now. More stress for London Bridge station? Probably!

Reports now say a points failure at Cannon Street, also still encouraging people to avoid London Bridge if possible.

That all makes sense to me. London Victoria and Charing Cross might be a tiny bit mental if people have to go there! I hear London Bridge is packed, as is to be expected, of course (and that's hardly unusual).
