Which lines/junctions do they use to turn steam locos at Carlisle? Looking at a railway atlas there would seem to be a few options. Also, do they get re-coaled between trips. Cheers for any info.

Hi,
The most common is that they take the loco and EC north then bring it back through the stations middle road and off down the east line as the above post says....then under the main WCL to Uperby Junction and then back to the station. On those trips a re coaling will take place at the old Uperby Depot.....they still have pits and road access. On occasions the sidings alongside the signal box are used just south of the station, but the loco still runs round the triangle afterwards. until a few years ago they could and did re coal also at Currock depot but since the site sale they cant.

I didn't think Currock had actually been sold yet, I knew permission had been granted for the new (and frankly stupid) houses but that noone had taken on the site?

As said, steam trains generally run station - London Road - Upperby where they coal alongside the road to the network rail compound whilst on the curve. They then head down to the junction before propelling back into the station along the WCML
