Just had one of those days from hell, but basically the ticket office told us to catch the 1043 Bournemouth service from Wolverhampton, which was announced and said on the screens it was calling at Birmingham International and Coventry. We had a shock when it passed through Tyseley; the guard (who'd previously checked out tickets without complaint) told us the next stop was Leamington Spa and that the train is "never booked to stop at Coventry". We had to get a replacement bus from Leamington to Coventry, which added an extra hour and a half to our journey in the end if not more due to missed connections, then landing us in Wolverhampton at the end of it at a bad time also missing connections, but anyway.
The train itself made no announcement of stops nor did the on train displays say anything.
Since we're likely to do this journey again:
Am I right in assuming that the 1043 Bournemouth train should stop at Coventry? Is this just because it is a Sunday, or because of the engineering works that meant we had to catch a bus from Leamington?
Were we supposed to have gone to Leamington to get to Coventry anyway? The guard didn't know, the ticket office in leamington didn't know, and seemingly Wolverhampton didn't know.
It wasn't just my group, there were a fair few passengers left with us at Leamington too, including a fair few who were headed to BHX for flights (not sure how they got on).
If we were in the wrong that's fine, obviously an inconvenience, but our own fault. But it would be interesting to know, for the future, what went on.
We normally catch the XX45 Euston service but there didn't seem to be one (and we were told specifically to catch the 1043 Bournemouth when at the ticket office (as we needed to buy an extra ticket to Coventry as my sister doesn't have a pass), otherwise we wouldn't have done).
Not looking for compensation or anything, just information for the future.
