Evenin' all,

Bit of a strange one this, I was in the vicinity of Eastleigh works this evening and I'm fairly certain that I saw some LT tube stock in the yard with interior lighting lit; it was really quite eerie! I realise of course that there might have been a floodlight or such behind it, but it very definitely looked like the carriage lights were on to me, there was a rather ghostly glow from the windows but no haze around the shilouette of the coach.

Is any of it undergoing work or preservation do we know?!

May well have been 2 carriages from the A stock which is being scrapped. 2 cars went last night and another two are about to be loaded on to the trailers for a trip down the motorway.

You can easily attach a power supply to put on saloon lighting, not too sure what the battery voltage was on the A stock but they would need lights for ripping out the interiors.

That is unless it was from another lighting source inside the cars?

Sadly it was at rather a distance, I just saw half of one car. It was a fairly bright, white light shining through all of the windows, which certainly gave the appearance that the saloon lights were on. It could have simply been rigged up lighting I guess, I hadn't thought of that! This was quite late this evening though, well after home time I'd have thought!

Perhaps they'd forgotten it, or left it on in the vain hope that someone would create a thread on a forum about it

Ah yeah, that'll be it ;)

Next time they'll be driving it round the works to see if they can really generate some excitement! :D

Has been done before! ;)

Seriously though, it could either be of several things - light from near one of the LT cars shining through, or a temporary light rigged up inside the car to aid removal of parts - though im not sure why any work be being carried out in the evening / dark.

I can imagine! :D

On a (sort of) related note, Rail mag this month carries a pic of a Connex liveried 508(?) on it's way from Eastleigh to So'ton docks to go by road somewhere for 'fire and rescue service training'; does anybody have any thoughts on exactly what they're planning to do with it and where? Is it likely to be written off at the hands of some heavy equipment or are they just gonna fill it with dry ice and then return it?!

There was a thread recently about this, I shall try and find it.

EDIT: My memory serves me well, from post #33 here.

There are some 1967 stock cars stored at Eastleigh.

Most of the ex Victoria Line 67 stock cars are now stored safely inside the main works, actually come to think of it all of it is. What's now left outside are as of last week:

2 Ex Central Line 1962 stock cars,
Some ex Central Line / Ex LT Museum Standard Stock Cars.
A Stock.
