Flybe Christmas Flights - Edinburgh/Glasgow - BHX less than £50 return with availabilty on X-Mas Eve itself and New Year times.
What is going on ? There is no competition and they are still knocking spots off any available Rail Fare and are bookable now. You've got to compare it to 1st Class on the train.
This is slightly worrying for regular air travellers between EDI and BHX as it indicates to me they must be struggling.
I thought I had a bargain at £60 return booked a few weeks ago.
The £50 fares are comparable to three or four years ago with lower APD.
Flybe seem to be making a habit of these "sales" after I had booked what I thought (and indeed used to be) the "base fares"
Ah well - enjoy it while it lasts
Well im going to Southampton next month and was going to cost over £200 return , so i settled for EZY to LGW .
I wouldnae really think about flying to BHX but them fares are good .

I commonly look out for aircraft types when booking a flight.
I recently opted to fly on BMI Regional's Embraer 135 on a MAN-LHR sector over the Airbuses and more recently did AMS-LCY with BA Citiflyer to experience the E-190's and the 7.5 degree approach into London City (like going down in a lift).
Aircraft types I have been on so Far are:
Airbus A319, A320, A330-300, A340-300
Boeing 737-300/400/700/800, 747-200/400, 767-300, 777-200/300
Embraer EMB-135, EMB-190
Bae 146
Saab 340/2000
Helicopter Bell 407
More B738 bashing for me next week with Ryanair, in the form of Bristol to Knock Ireland West and Cork to London Stansted.
I'd have gone somewhere far more exotic if I wasn't too scared to do so!

Cork is a wonderful airport especially if you catch the offshore helicopter departing out to Kinsale. Don't forget to show us the photos!
Not expecting too many of them as my flight is the 0810 ORK > STN, so dunno how good the light will be for shots. Even so, I'll give it a go.
As for what I'm scared of regarding going further afield, not sure. The unknown, the language barriers, having to go on my own are all factors though.
Lufthansa cabin crew can be quite scary!! I have only flown with them once but never again.

I just found them rather stern and without personality. Obviously, the luck of the draw on the day. My reason to fly Lufthansa was solely to fly on an A310 before they were withdrawn from service. As for forming an opinion based on one experience; as they say, you only get one chance to make a first impression.route101 said:Scary in what way , LH are a great airline

You should certainly go further afield - start with somewhere like the Netherlands! We should arrange a RUK plane bashing trip...
Actually, part of the fun of flying for me is going somewhere that bit different...
Don't get me wrong, I agree completely with your comment about variety and for quite a few years my preference was Star over OneWorld. I flew BA to Tokyo once and was very disappointed. (IFE not working, unable to move seats plus meal choice not available) I didn't vow never to fly with them again but it was some years before I did. That was to Chicago to try out their (then) new Business Class product on the 777 and, wow, what a difference a few years made. For Lufthansa, I think it was a case of efficiency over personality. It is probably too strong for me to say 'never again'. Though, there are quite a few airlines to try first.WestCoast said:Just seemed like an odd reason to vow never to fly them again. I personally think they are one of Europe's best carriers and truly excel at efficiency. All things considered I prefer Lufthansa-SWISS-Austrian to BA-Iberia and Air France-KLM. I mean I understand some people like to stick to one or two airlines, but I'd be really bored doing that. Variety is the spice of aviation for me.
Their A310s were retired in the '90s, with the A300s being retired last decade.
I'd be up for that... If money was no object maybe try the Norwegian Milk run that a certain Finn did recently.
In the real world however maybe Madrid (on the A346/767), Amsterdam, Germany?
I'd suggest the Netherlands, Western Germany or Scandinavia if you are worried about language as English is widely spoken (Dutch and Scandinavian TV is often english with subtitles). Though if you can learn a few words most will be appreciative.
I've done Lille (by E*), Dublin and Amsterdam on my own, but then I'm used to my own company.
I was tempted with a trip to Madrid on the Iberia A346 this Autumn; but with so many strikes and demonstrations in the city, I have been put off.
