I'm off to Scarborough next week, arriving from Hull at 14:45 and departing on the 17:48 TPE service. Can anyone recommend any good real ale/food pubs please near to the station?

I've been to the Wetherspoons here before, but would prefer somewhere with a bit more atmosphere!

Many thanks.

Some good real ale pubs from my visits on the Scarboro' Spa Express last year and the year before:

- North Riding, about a 20 minute walk away (and 5 mins from the North Bay Railway if you fancy a narrow gauge diesel hydraulic for haulage), see http://www.northridingbrewpub.com/

- Hole in the Wall, only 5 mins or so from the station, map at http://www.marstonspubcompany.co.uk/pubs/view/12014

- The Alma, 3 mins from the station, ideal for a last one before you depart. No website but it's on the map at http://yorkcamra.org.uk/Scarborough.PDF along with a load of other places to pick from.

I'm not aware if any of the above places do food unfortunately, as I didn't eat in any of them.

If you have the time, walk up to The Old Scalby Mills (where I went when I was in Scarborough doing the Cleveland Way). It's up past the Sea Life Centre on North Bay and it's a really good, quiet traditional pub. Excellent local ale as well.

Just had a look at the site, like the look of that so may well give it a go, thanks!
