Does this train terminate at Ribblehead for operational reasons as it's an easier place to turn back than Horton or Settle?
I can't imagine that there are many commuters from Ribblehead.

Yes i imagine so. It can easily turnback as there is a single track section over the viaduct with sidings at the other end. I have caught late night trains back from Ribblehead before and they are fairly well loaded.

A strange sort of Santa special, but there you go. Recommended pubs near to the station at Lazonby and Armathwaite that Cheds Dad knows about - others may add more.

Hope it's of interest to someone..............

I'm assuming it's designed for people late night shopping Carlisle (which is Thursdays pre-Christmas) - and they might as well run it back in service.

Interesting to note that on Saturdays, the 21:00 from Ribblehead only runs as far as Skipton. Train then forms 5H09 to Skipton Broughton C.S.

Though as on Mon-Fri it waits in skipton 10 mins and there is a departure from Skipton to Leeds at the same time (2148) on a Saturday it is possible to get into Leeds for the same time.

As far as I am aware, the train loses a 153 at Skipton but it has been a long time since I have had reason to hang round Skipton at that time of night.

Just out of interest - the Ribblehead trains have a curious history (the former morning starter now comes through from Carlisle, but only in the last couple of years).

I can't check exact years, because most of my old t/ts are stored but from memory:
after the S and C stoppers were withdrawn (early 70's), Settle only had a minimal service. Instead, stops were put in at Giggleswick (etc) on the Heysham "night boat train." to cover what had been a Garsdale-Skipton commuter (Skipton College students?)

When these in turn bit the dust, the predecessors of the present service were put on. I think at that stage they turned at Settle, until the box there was closed. Ribblehead Viaduct had been singled as well, so Blea Moor became the first possible turnback point. The morning positioning working was always ECS from Skipton but the evening train back became a passenger, to pick up Three Peaks walkers (etc.).

Oh, and the 1919 had to terminate at Horton for some years until the new down platform at Ribblehead was built...
