That's a lot of stuff for one day, I'm not sure you'll get as far as Holyhead.

It is a lot and it is possible.

Remember you'll need a Hayes & Harlington - Heathrow T123 for the Heathrow Connect.

Indeedy, £5.90 with the Y-P.

I am very impressed that the Ffestinog is included in the ALR price which is a nice bonus. £4 upgrade to First Class/Observation Coach too.

Indeedy I'm not, plus the Ffestinog line will be more fun with any luck.

My only problem with lines that The Phwillei (again spelling!! ha) is that once you get to the end, the only way is straight back!

I've had similar or longer days on all-lines! One time I did Holyhead (then via London) Great Yarmouth and Clacton all in one day, then back via London and home to Yorkshire. I remember it, as when I caught my unit home from Leeds, there was one of these market surveys being conducted, asking everyone where they'd travelled from. Rather than explain what I'd done, I just said Great Yarmouth! Probably one of my best days out, a 37 out of Holyhead at 03.50 (or some other ridiculous hour!), and another 37 into Great Yarmouth around lunchtime on a load 3 or 4 unit 'vice'.

The distances according to the NRT (assuming sleeper runs via Castle Cary/Taunton etc) is 852⅔ miles. Beating my previous best in a day which was Leeds - York - Newcastle - Carlisle - Scarborough - Hull - Leeds (460)

The penzance-dundee stretch will be awful!

I was thinking the same! If he thinks he would die doing a train out of Holyhead at 03.50, I'm unsure how he'll cope with that journey!! ;)

If I get round to it next week, I'll try and dig out the details one or two of my all-lines from the 1990s and post up the full list of moves.

Instead of getting a voyager from Penzance - Dundee, why don't you get a HST to London, tube to KGX, then catch a HST for Aberdeen?

If you catch the 0643 from Penzance, you can then get the 1400 KGX - Aberdeen, or the 0845 ex Penzance for the 1600 KGX - Aberdeen. Both options are a lot more comfortable than a voyager....

EDIT - Be careful about cathing the Highland Chieftain as well. Any delays, and you'll miss the sleeper from Inverness.

Or you could always get the 0503 Golden Hind from penzance to Paddington and get a few lines in London before...

My previous record was on a Freedom of North West and had a 9am start, back to Leeds by 11pm.

My second day of Cornish Branches and back to Leeds is a mere 417 but the miles arent whats important really :D

Just got my ALR for next week, I do like the wallet it comes with... I wonder what the FGW one looks like...

Will look a bit odd, up north but with me wallet covered with "South West Trains www.southwesttrains.co.uk" etc.

I'm not going to go to Dundee, I'm going to say I have done that far on a Voyager ;)

I've probably done more, but i did around 418 miles on the same Voyager double-set last Saturday, and loved every second of it. I was on it from 11:00-20:00 with an hour at Glasgow, yet it honestly went very quickly for me.

Total for weekend- around 470 miles.

I'll also be doing at least 400 miles next week, and it will please most members when i tell you that some will be allocated to an HST bash, in the very rear carriage of the Country bound train.

I wonder if i can total 1,000 miles over the Easter period.. I'll have a look for the mileage website address on the internet.

Is there any up to date mileage websites which members know about?

The Voyagers are generally fine, although it can be a bit of a lottery depending on what set you get. The last journey I made on one was from Cheltenham to York via Leeds for the NRM Cab-It, and I can honestly say that I was not uncomfortable at any time in the 3 hour journey. The vibration was practically non-existant and the seat was soft and spongy with a decent amount of leg room. However, I did Chelteemham to Taunton on one around 1 year ago and it was really rattly and the seat was harder than rock. They vary considerably, but I have made more good trips than bad since they were introduced.
