AAAAAWWWWWWW NOOO :(

So the timetable change will be the end of loco-hauled VT services then, as Dec 8 marks the last HHD Pendolino drag as well.

Does this make GA the last passenger operator of 90s then (excl. ScotRail).

Well chosen. :D

Well, I suppose that'll see me on the 18:43 out of Euston this Friday then, not only to mark my last day of commuting into and out of London, but also the last opportunity I am likely to have to travel on the Pretendolino in regular service.

Oh that's cool :), I did something similar when I went back to uni, I was on one of the last WAG1 service from Newport to Bangor. It's a shame this could be the end of the Pretendolino, as it added a nice bit of variety to VT's fleet.

Only nine years since WCML hauled trains were supposed to end...and you'd still be a brave man to predict this will be the end of the end!

Indeed, it will undoubtedly crop up in service at some point in the future, but in a far less predictable manner compared to it's present weekly activities.

I wouldn't be too sure - once they've removed it from all but the top Euston men it'll be difficult to find crew in the right place once **** hits the fan.

And when they do find someone to take it, it won't work as it'll have been sat there not doing anything for months :|

Just booked it to Birmingham New Street, then back to London.
Then I am on the 08.50 to Holyhead and back the next day for the last drag!

Ironic that after all the bearded one's whingeing about the Mk III stock he inherited from BR there's still a set in use as his franchise comes to an end :D

Yes, I know they've been one set short since Lambrigg, but that's hardly unprecedented.

Does anyone know roughly how long it sits at Crewe before heading back to London?

I am booked on it! I hope it recieves the send off that it deserves!

Love the pretendolino, I hope that the new franchise holders can arrange a deal to keep it in a consistent service patern, but I do have my doubts with DDA and all that

Perhaps West Coast or another charter operator would like to buy it, otherwise what will happen to it, left to rot in a siding for 10 years before being scrapped.

They could hire it at a discount to GA to work on London -Norwich

That would be great, but it won't happen sadly. GA downsized their fleet when they took over as it was, and they seem fine with what they have. I still really hope this happens though :P I the Pretendolino is less mangy than some of GA's Mark 3s.

As did NX before - Cant remember what those four ex NXEA / 'ONE' Mk3s are up to these days, hopefully not rotting around in store in Long Marston.

It would seem awfully logical, but as you said unlikely to happen. It could have replaced the 321 that I believe does a Norwich - Liverpool Street return working. (May not be 100% right - East Anglia is not my patch!!)

They disbanded an LHCS set in December 2009 to form other rakes up to 9 cars, and stored the remainder of it. Since then one coach has been reintroduced. There is a 321 diagram to Norwich (1702 LST-NRW, 1930 NRW-LST), but Greater Anglia want this to stay as a 321 for the forseeable future (I emailed them about it, and that was how they responded).

Fair enough. I'm sure doing it like this is more financially beneficial for Greater Anglia and this is why they do it. Well, if they ever do change their viewpoint and want to increase capacity, they don't have to search very far!

Thats a shame I aways used to enjoy watching American and German tourists trying to work out how to open the doors from the in side. They never seemed to be able to work out where BR had hidden the door handle.
