Queenstown Road - Battersea Park.

Actually 3 - 5 mins by foot and Approx 20 mins by train allowing for waiting time at Clapham Junction

As an aside National Rail Enquiries does not give a fare for this journey but does suggest that it takes 10 mins on foot. I wonder if some of these journeys listed above are actually in the fares manual or available on STAR or if a direct ticket is even available to purchase.

North Camp - Ash Vale is also shown as "no fares available" but suggests you can walk it in 11 mins

Warrington Bank Quay to Warrington Central gives you an option of walking but displays the train times.

Bicester Town - Bicester North

About 15 minutes walk or at least an hour by train depending on connections changing at Oxford and Banbury.

Catford to Catford Bridge is an obvious one.
St Albans Abbey to St Albans, Enfield Chase to Enfield Town, Hertford North to Hertford East, Windsor & Eton Cenral to Windsor & Eton Riverside, Epsom Downs to Tattenham Corner, there are loads around London really.

As for London Underground, there are lots of examples in areas like Acton, Ruislip, Watford, Edgware, Barnet...
Bayswater to Queensway is a slightly less obvious one.

Warren Street, Great Portland Street, Regents Park and Warren Street are all rather closer to one another than you'd expect looking at the tube map.

Northwick Park to Kenton is only a couple of minutes on foot but the journey by rail is via Baker Street.

Then there are the West Hampstead stations. Goodness knows how long it would take to visit all three by rail!

I doubt even Usain Bolt could get from one to the other in less than 60 seconds !

Having thought about it, I think I was underestimating the distance despite having walked that way for most of my days

The morning direct service from Askam-in-Furness takes 37 mins to get to Dalton-in-Furness. By road it's about 2.5 miles.
In days gone by I'd have beaten the train over that distance, not now I've started falling apart at the seams.

It depends if you include the time it takes to get to/from the low level platforms or not. From street level to street level, walking is definitely faster.

Mentioned that one.

Having said that, while this answers the question, who in their right mind would need to make that journey (other than enthusiasts?)

Surely this question should apply to worthwhile journeys where foot vs rail would be considered.

Hmm, I could probably walk Colne - Skipton in 3 hours, the quickest journey by train seems to be around 3h 30m.

Pontefract Monkhill - Baghill and South Elmsall - Moorthorpe as well.

5 minute walk, or 4 trains, the choice is yours.

National Rail web site has only one Retford station listed, and no low or high listed. It's long walk between platforms, but that's another topic surely?

Yet in some timetables and on the infomation screens at Sheffield Midland Station its classed as Retford Low Level or Retford High Level.

thought of that one, since you are advised to walk between theses 2 stations

See that Liskeard - Coombe also mentioned, never tried it, but locally said that if you just missed the train at Liskeard, you could run downhill and catch it at coombe

Hessle to Barton on Humber? Might be quite a quiet a cold and lonely walk over the Humber Bridge though!

Euston to Kings Cross - tube takes a lot longer
Kings Cross to Russell Sq - ditto
Actually tube journeys that are quicker on foot are far too many to mention, always like seeing people looking at the tube map to decide how to get from one point to another, few ever compare to street maps.....

That's because they don't expect anyone to make the journey, so no fares have been set between the two stations.

That means the NRE site falls back onto the cheapest possible valid rover ticket, in this case a 3 in 7 Severn/Avon/Wessex rover or whatever it's called nowadays.
