He means it's a passenger service over an unusual line.

(Might be a good time to issue a reminder for people to read the forum rules requiring such acronyms to be defined the first time they are used as not everyone knows them)

Hope we get some engineering in the Lakes next year then maybe a 185 up the Airedale line and S&C.

It is sure going to be unusual for the likes of Huddersfield and Dewsbury to have a direct service to Edinburgh!

Used to have them in BR days, travelled on the 0929 from Hudds to Waverley many a time as a kid (think it originated from Lime Street, but stand to be corrected?).

As an employee of TPE based in Newcastle the service as far as we have been advised replaces some west coast services to maintain a service between the airport and Scotland. It will be Edinburgh conductors working the trains with freight liner drivers, and Newcastle staff will not be covering the work. Services via Berwick but non stop between Newcastle and Edinburgh.

As for stoppers north of Newcastle, there is no demand because there is no provision, and the sooner the rail industr realise this then we might just see such a service. Currently people in Berwick have to travel to Newcastle to pick up a service to Alnwick or Morpeth. Why would there be a demand if here is no service? currently the bus takes nigh on 2 hours between Newcastle and Berwick while the train takes 45 mins. Yet for intermediate locations the bus is quicker. I cannot see any reason why there cannot be a service from Newcastle to Edinburgh calling At Morpeth, almouth, Berwick, Dunbar, wallyford (or whichever station connects with north Berwick branch) and merged in with existing Glasgow, York or Middlesbrough services to significantly improve journey opportunities across the north east. This would be in addition to reactivating services through ashington, Blyth etc and reopening leamside adding stations at Washington, houghton, Durham Belmont, through to Middlesbrough.

Yeah I know ambitious, an no doubt some feasibility study will say no demand, poor value for money etc but wherever I have seen a service improvement it has come with an increase in demand. So logic suggests where the service provision is made and encouraged, demand will be created.

Are these still on for up to 18 May, and does anyone have the Saturday/Sunday times for subsequent weekends other than during Easter please?

The TPE website does not yet list any alterations to these services beyond the Easter weekend.

I should say yes, as looking at NR journey planner and using my local station of LOC, weekend of 20/4 and 21/4 shows no service for much of the weekend and weird routings for some of what is there.

No buses mentioned yet, though.

Look on realtimetrains on 13th April...that's one day of odd routing, but not limited to this date

Some services also taking ECML from Edinburgh

I checked the National Rail website and there is indeed a service from Manchester to Edinburgh via ECML.

For example, tomorrow there is a 12:05 Manchester Airport - Edinburgh service which is normally a Newcastle service but goes straight to Edinburgh after Newcastle.

Calling pattern is Piccadilly, Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Leeds, York, Northallerton, Darlington, Durham, Newcastle (arrives 15:05) and Edinburgh (arrives 16:39).

Here's a screenshot of it from the National Rail site.

Was on the 2045 Transpennine from Edinburgh to Glasgow Central this evening and it did go via Falkirk Grahamston , Cumbernauld and Coatbridge .
Some passengers were confused !
When did the drivers learn this route?

The 'unusual operation' this weekend did seem to cause a fair bit of minor disruption on the 'Core' TPE section, with delays of 10-30mins on services through Huddersfield. The extra number of 6-car formations helped though, managed to get a seat HUD-MAN for once, on an ex-Edinburgh service.
