What do you guys think of Phil Neville's decision to leave Everton?

One of the few footballers I have respect for, He knows he is near the end of his career and not relying on any loyalties from Everton. Good on him for his choice, if he plays for another top flight choice that will be through merit only

Wigan have only sold at least 10,000 ticket for FA Cup Semi Final this weekend :o

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22097080

Also Bury could be out of business in next couple of week if they don't found £1m, u have to feel sorry for Bury as they been hit by transfer embargo twice and will be relegated to League Two on Saturday if they lost to Oldham.

There is a football god!

Preston 2-0 Oldham :D

1 game down, and 1 to go!*

*Games in hand that is.

^^ From what I hear Oldham was better team in first half but didn't come out for second half (bit like last two matches where they haven't starting playing until second half but yesterday was over way around) and because Baxter pick up yellow card in second half, he will miss ours next two matches because he reach 10 yellow cards this season, that is bad news for Oldham as he is best player Oldham got and he score 15 goal for Oldham this season too.

For Saturday is must win for Oldham as if they lost against Bury then with four games left I feel Oldham need to win two of them as I can only see Scunthorpe winning at Bury but not winning any of them three other games they have left.

Nothing - Just like the overwhelming majority of the people in the nation who may well never have heard of him.

That means he is a proper professional. Just gets on with it without any fanfare like the majority of footballers (yes they are stupidly over paid but thats not the issue lol)

I assume Mr Neville left Everton by train ... and that's why you brought it up on this forum!!

It is in "General Discussion", nothing wrong with that whatsoever. Although we do have a dedicated football thread where I believe someone had already posted about it.

I have no issue with it being on here ... it just made me chuckle! The thread has been moved to the Railway Discussion page.

I think it belongs in the football topic :p

I wonder how much Everton will save on the wage bill though, perhaps Ivo may know?

When did all this Bury stuff come to light? :( Hope they pull through...

I wonder how much Everton will save on the wage bill though, perhaps Ivo may know?

Phil (my brother and I always call him "Phil") was never the biggest earner, even in his Man U days. I believe he earns £50K per week, which is fairly low for a top-flight captain but still probably in the top half.

Speaking of which, seeing as it was asked, here is my previous response on the matter which brought it to the forum's attention...

Meanwhile, in news that matters to me and basically no-one else in this thread, Phil Neville has announced he will be leaving Everton at the end of this season :( He's been with us for eight years and has done a tremendous job.

BBC Article

...

Wait a sec. Phil is leaving; Bury are in trouble. If nothing else, being a Bury boy himself, maybe he could give them some help?

It seems Darron Gibson has put in a claim for the role of captain. An interesting choice, certainly - but I can think of several others (Jagielka, Howard, Baines) who would be ahead of him. Still, certainly not the worst choice. Whoever it is, I just hope they still work under Moyes - I dread to think where we might finish next year if he decides to leave :(

Why so hostile my friend, are you tubey?

A little hint: Everton aren't exactly the most well-supported club on here, but having said that no-one really hates them either. Among regulars though, myself aside I know of only one person (Gathursty) who actually supports Everton.

No you weren't. As I said before, you kept fouling, diving, and the ref was on your side. How you even finished with 11 men is some kind of miracle. I'd seriously watch the game back, it was brutal but the second half was amazing.
(I don't think Deepdale has hosted a decent ref this season. Outrageous, I think the Bluesquare North had a few going spare)

My favourite train?

The deadly departed (well, sort of) 121032 :(

So not one that goes anywhere near Liverpool. Whereas the Class I am infamous for loathing has been known to travel there before now. (If you look around the forum you'll find out which Class I'm referring to before too long ;))

Played badly and snatched a last minute winner at the New Den to go 14th. Millwall 1 Sheffield Wednesday 2 - what a result for us. Amazing away day.

Uefa proposes 10-match ban for racist abuse

Players and officials found guilty of racist behaviour face 10-match bans as part of new plans proposed by Uefa.

Uefa general secretary Gianni Infantino also revealed clubs could be forced to close part or all of their stadiums if fans racially abuse players.

Infantino said: "It's still a scourge on the game. We have to have sanctions.

"What we are proposing is that if a player or official is found guilty then they will be suspended for 10 matches."

Speaking at the Soccerex event in Manchester today, Infantino added: "If supporters are found guilty then there will be a partial closure of the stadium.

"This means the section where offence took place will be closed. If there is a second offence by the club's supporters there will be full closure with a minimum 50,000 euros (£42,700) fine."

The debate on racism intensified this season after AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng led his team off the field during a friendly in Italy after facing abuse.

The Ghanaian walked off the pitch during a match against Italian team Pro Patria after he was abused by their fans.

Professional Footballers' Association chairman and Kick It Out ambassador Clarke Carlisle has welcomed Uefa's proposal.

"My reaction to this is one of near satisfaction," he said. "A minimum 10-game ban is a fantastic start. That is a deterrent."

Piara Powar, executive director of European anti-discrimination group Fare, was also pleased by the announcement.

"We think in the end the best that football can do is to use football sanctions, closing a stadium or half a stadium speaks for itself - people are denied access to the game, the club loses revenue and it's an embarrassment, frankly."

But he added: "The sanctioning element needs to be accompanied with a very strong educational piece. We need fans to understand why they are being sanctioned."

The Uefa executive committee will vote on the new anti-racism proposal in London in May and, if passed, the ruling could apply to all Uefa competitions from as early as July.

Uefa is also asking all of its member associations to apply it to their own domestic competitions with the plans going to a vote of the congress in May.

The FA said it welcomed Uefa's comments and pointed out its own sanctions were being reviewed. It added: "This is ongoing and takes place in full consultation with the leagues, clubs, managers, players and match officials.

"We remain committed to tackling all forms of discrimination including racism."

I find racism abhorrent. Life bans from any involvement in football would not be enough IMO. Nobody makes a racist remark by accident. Suarez, great player that he is, good shout for player of the year I think, should not be playing the game.

The idea is great. The only question now is how consistently and fairly it will be implemented. We'll see.

So how would you distinguish race ? And what is different between anti-semitic chanting and anti-cockney, scouse, brummie, geordie chanting ? Aren't such chants directing hate towards people purely based on where they are born as bad ? ..or are certain types of hatred at football acceptable while others aren't ?
They have banned the sectarian chanting in Scotland.

If I have my way then all sorts of discrimination would ideally be banned. I would like to think of the attempt at tackling racism as a start to something more encompassing.

Absolutely.

Although you wouldn't know it at some grounds. I see no difference between sectarianism and racism. Hatred of a group of people for there skin colour, nationality, religion or politics it's all the same to me.

I follow Celtic and I go to Parkhead whenever I can. Some of the singing at Parkhead and moreso in the Celtic support at away games is embarrassing and I support most of the recent action taken by the club and Strathclyde Police. Those people who sing these songs don't see the damage they are doing to our clubs reputation and it is only time before UEFA takes more severe action. I fully believe we should be allowed to celebrate our Irish heritage, but songs supporting the IRA are despicable.

Sectarianism isn't only an old firm problem. Other clubs, notably Hearts, but also Dundee, Hibs and Aberdeen have their own element of sectarian supporters.

Indeed, the game against Bury is a critical game for Oldham Athletic, which events today would give quite an emphasis to.

You can not expect that both Scunthorpe United and Oldham Athletic will lose all their remaining games, leaving the goal difference betwen them to be the deciding factor on who stays up and who goes down.

Rochdale formally confirm their Football League status with a 4-2 win, while Sarfend supporters must rue the replacement of a reasonably competent manager by a (self-)overrated extra from a Tango advert...

Can someone with access to a fixture list please reassure me that if Dale beat Port Vile on Saturday it won't open the door to a promotion spot for Rovrum, who are equally irritating in normal circumstances and have compunded their sins by employing Evans as manager??

And now that Gillingham are up, isn't it time for Martin Allen to go on emergency loan to Barnet for the last 3 games of the season???

Thirdly, I've just seen on Twitter that Danny Wilson has been sacked by Sheffield United!

Now confirmed.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22101757

BBC Sport said:
Danny Wilson leaves post as Sheffield United manager

Sheffield United manager Danny Wilson has left the League One club with the Blades in fifth place and six points off automatic promotion.
The Blades lost 2-0 at home to Crawley on Tuesday and have not scored at Bramall Lane since 16 February.
First-team coach Chris Morgan will take charge until the end of the season.

This could go either way. It might galvanise them, or their season is effectively over. Time to support Swindon on Saturday. (God, I never thought I would ever say that.)

When did Hinckley United become so useless anyway...?

I don't know if their newly-found team spirit after the 6-3 win over Corby Town is anything to go by, but having a goal difference now actually IMPROVED to minus 96 after that match, they will still be hard pressed not to see this run into three figures, as their remaining five league fixtures are all against strong opposition:-

HOME.....Droylsden, Altrincham, Bishop's Stortford

AWAY.....Worcester City, Guiseley

I am sure that gnolife will still remember that his beloved Altrincham beat Hinckley United 8-0 at home earlier in the season..:D
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
And to Paul, I thought they'd picked up 9 points so far (2 wins, 3 draws)...but had 3 points deducted.

Indeed, the 2-1 away win at Boston United on 25th August 2012 was so long ago that I thought it was a match played at the end of the previous season...

I was amazed to see that Peterborough United had put together a run of eight undefeated league matches (3 wins/5 draws) to keep their hopes alive for another season in the Championship.

It is a small step from there to saying that chants directing hate purely based on which football team they support are as bad. And do you punish the whole crowd or attempt to separate those who chanted "offensively" from those who didn't? And is a chant of "You were born in Glasgow" offensively racist or cheerily supportive? In no way am I suggesting racism should be ignored, just that banning chants is a peculiarly subjective way of handling it.

I have just completed revising my League Data spreadsheet to improve its functionality. You can now see each club's form season-by-season under "Club Data", as well as the number of seasons they have competed in (both as a total and as a percentage).

The new version is attached. As with before, if you find any errors let me know.

Rochdale formally confirm their Football League status with a 4-2 win, while Sarfend supporters must rue the replacement of a reasonably competent manager by a (self-)overrated extra from a Tango advert...

Ah well, at least I know Southend will still be in the League next year  (Whilst 24th can still catch them, 22nd and 23rd cannot.)

Can someone with access to a fixture list please reassure me that if Dale beat Port Vile on Saturday it won't open the door to a promotion spot for Rovrum, who are equally irritating in normal circumstances and have compunded their sins by employing Evans as manager??[/QUOTE]

Port Vale *should* be safely ahead now, as they are eight clear with only 12 available. However, the same cannot be said for anyone below them, especially given Rotherham have a game in hand on most of them - albeit away to Bradford.

Rotherham's remaining games:

Fleetwood (H), Bradford (A), Plymouth (A), Aldershot (H)

I would expect them to claim between seven and ten points from this group.
