Another surprising livery being applied considering its an unrefurbished unit, disagree with the poster above mind you, I like the livery(not sure if the passengers is going to appreciate not really being able to really see out of the window mind!) and you would imagine this unit will be one of the last units to get refurbished with a new advert just being applied. One may also consider is 4038/83 are the two units that are not going to get refurbished along with 4001/02 considering they both received new adverts this year, it be one to look out for sure.

Another thing to observe is what colour are the door buttons on the interior, those door buttons there are yellow with the button underneath the text, I'm pretty sure the exterior door buttons have the button above the text so I wonder if they been swapped around and now the interior have got the red door buttons? Something too look out for I suppose.

Also good too see the Sunderland line won't be single car running during the line closure, bit of common sence really considering the demand there will be on the Saturday in particular.

I was told that there are still (told this two weeks ago) three units which won't be refurbished and will only run when needed for extra trains, such as the Christmas period etc.

Have you got any source for the four Metrocars not going?

I must admit the livery's chosen are rather odd as they both seem to be advertising holidays and so could be seen as advertising for summer holidaymakers.

Yes, it would appear they have switched them around, more than likely, as you say, so as still to stand out to passengers who may have difficulty in seeing them on the red doors.

I also quite like that new livery, it makes the other metrocar at the back of the picture look quite dull in comparison! It also appears more time has been spent with the repaint than with 38, but I cant imagaine the windows will stay like that for long. I'd imagine there will be a barrage of complaints in the near future!

I get the feeling that refurbs wont be getting advert liveries any time soon, but I do find it strange that it was car 4083 that was selected for a repaint, and not an existing out of date advert livery. This could suggest that 4083 will either be one of the last to go to Doncaster or may not even be refurbished at all, though its impossible to say which 2 wont be refurbished along with 4001/02, especially seeing as 4087 still remains out of service after all these months.

@ModernRailways - Huw Lewis has said on the nexus discussion forum a few times that 4 cars wont be going to Doncaster.

I knew there was 4 cars that wouldn't be going but I was told that they think they will have just enough to do 87 cars and have 3 not being done. Although, I was also told they wanted to do a few of them in-house at Gosforth.

Can put that to bed straight away - no trains will be refurbished at Gosforth. Whoever has told you that is seriously misinformed.

The engineering work has overun this weekend, so no trains again tomorrow between Hebburn/Brockley Whins and Gateshead Stadium until mid-morning.

Just been looking at Coach Alex's videos, and it appears 4062 has now left for Doncaster. On the comments for that video he has told someone another metrocar should be leaving this Friday, although whether or not that is actually true with his reputation is anyones guess.

4040 has now received the Emirates advert livery, paired with 4083 as the photo by emdjt42 shows.

Nice too see two advert units showing the same advert are paired together again, bring back the times when the Woodpecker cider and M&S units and others were paired together.

Be interesting too see if 4040/83 will be the two units staying on Tyneside then, would make sence.

The problems will start if 40/83 need to be split for maintenance. There are a few sets running around which have been coupled for a while (11/12, 15/20 spring to mind) but it won't last for ever.

Was on the Emirates unit today. The photo's don't do it justice! I actually think it looks quite nice in person but in photo's it still looks horrible. Also, its nice and clean on the exterior at least, the interior is extremely dirty (see image below)!
The door buttons have indeed been swapped around, although it is quite confusing. When I was getting on I pushed the top, and obviously there is no button, and upon exiting, I found myself trying to push the bottom when it's at the top.
I'm guessing Emirates have paid a fortune for this too, since all the advert boards inside the cars are all advertising Emirates which will no doubt be losing Metro a bit of money in lost advertising revenue.
I've attached an image below with what the interior doors look like and you can see how dirty it is too.

The streaks on the doors look to be rust stains. The floor looks as if it has been recently polished, but the salt on the platforms doesn't help.

Yes, They Changed Todays Move At The Last Minute. I Was Stood At Hylton Street From 11 till 2 And Nothing Happened At Hylton Street. I'm Guessing That Either The Low Loader Wasn't Avaliable Or That The Next Refurb Isn't Ready To Return Yet

A comment added on 5/4/13 the friday so sounds like hes telling fibs again, he cant help it that lad can he making it all up

On a recent on there is a video of two Battery Locos dragging the Tamper (supposedly to the main depot buildings for maintenance). Of course this is complete tosh as the Tamper is owned by Nexus Rail and is under a maintenance contract which has nothing to do with DB Regio...

In other news there was some action at Hylton Street today, so one more down and one more up.

I've been told that 4087 is being prepared to re-enter service after the flood damage last year.

May I ask how the units became flooded?

Sorry if it's been mentioned but I'm not reading 62 pages to find out.

The floods came from a storm we had last August(don't think it was the June storm when the units were flood damaged). 4012/4044 were paired at the time but its unknown where on the system they were flooded but I did note them both in Pelaw sidings the next day before being rescued by another set of metro cars. I'm not sure when 4087 got flooded though.

Either way, the damage all 3 cars suffered was more than likely to be an eletrical one and the motors probably have to be replaced hence they been out of service for many months.

Just about all of the electrical components on a Metro are below the floor and are slung quite low, so even a small flood can cause problems. From what I can remember two of the cars were stranded in the tunnel between Tyne Dock and Simonside.

Good news about 4087, however Ive just watched that video and it looks like the B end could do with a wash! Also according to the video it was damaged due to the floods in late June, however I recall seeing the car a couple of weeks after these floods so I have no idea when it went out of service.

Also, anyone on here who was on the system last week may have saw that 4010 is now back in passenger service.

4010 has been out with 90, saw it on a Pelaw service yesterday.

4087 was back in public service last night - worked 158 on the evening peaks.

It was the August floods where all 3 metrocars were flood damaged not the June floods as I looked at CoachAlex's photos and saw all 3 units still in service after the June floods.

Managed to catch 4087 yesterday, actually felt light and airy with a nice clean polished flooring and quieter sounding metro.

If anyone wants to catch this unit, its paired with 4050 at the moment.

Noticed that as well, floor hasn't been affected by the salt and probably has been on the wheel lathe as well.

4079 is back running, with 4053 on 150 evening peak.

4054 is back from Doncaster, saw a picture of it when looking at Coach Alex's photos, which means another car has probably gone down.

4006 went down to Doncaster when 54 came back up.

Really? I was on 4006 last week I think it was and I'm sure 4054 came back before then, either way it has probably went down to Doncaster as its no longer paired with 4036.

It also shows recent A front ends repaints has little meaning when a car heads down for Refurbishment.

From what I've been told it went down last week - couldn't remember when 54 came back. 36 is now paired with 45, was on the evening peak services. Also, 11/12 are no longer paired - they had been a set for quite a while

4031 has gone down to Doncaster today, 4073 is back.

Any idea what date the next move is? Would like to go and see one since I've kept putting it off, mainly because I have had stuff to do or haven't known!
