According to TRUST, Grand Central will achieve the extension of their fifth train which currently runs as 12.53 Kings Cross to Hartlepool and 14.47 Hartlepool to Kings Cross to run to and from Sunderland. The southbound train will depart from Sunderland at 14.06 and have a 17 minute dwell at Hartlepool to pick up it's current path. It still won't call at Thirsk.

I'm curious to see how that will work. The current 14.47 Hartlepool to Kings Cross is the return leg of the 11.21 Kings Cross to Hartlepool (Arrive 14.23).

In order to get to Sunderland to return at 14.06 its going to have to leave kings Cross an hour or more earlier. Based on current times the northbound train is going to have to leave around 10.00. I think it's going to involve a lot of re-organisation to make it work.

It seems that almost all trains of both LM and Chiltern will be calling at Stratford Parkway in the May timetable (which includes a major beefing up of Stratford to Birmingham services).

Out if interest, the new station's code will be STY.

EMT, SE and XC timetables are now online for May-December if anyone's interested. Quite impressed by how early they are!

As much as people say it won't, it will nick a small proportion of trade from Warwick Parkway, so they were bound to stick stops in.

True that. ISTR that one of the places Chiltern were initially expecting to attract people to Warwick Parkway from was Redditch/Alcester (no idea if they actually do). In fact to drive from Alcester to Warwick Parkway you go literally past the entrance of Stratford Parkway.

XC appear to have tweaked the alternate hour extensions of the Newcastle - Reading services. The last of the six current southbound, that currently terminates at Eastleigh, is now terminating at Guildford. The former Guildford service now forms a late arrival at Southampton Central.

(The Eastleigh terminator was previously the awkward one that ran via Andover and Romsey, as it allegedly couldn't be pathed on the mainline, and the Eastleigh destination was an attempted solution.)

You'd expect so - maybe change the PIS at Guildford or somewhere? Probably easiest just to continue showing Havant on leaving Waterloo, as the normal service to Fareham goes the other way, and it's non - stop Fareham to Southampton anyway...

IIRC the SWML Portsmouth services are shown as "Portsmouth Harbour" with "via Basingstoke" on a second line, so you could have Southampton Ctl via Haven't, possibly?

That would be the probable best bet on the side of the train. There's a subtle difference between a once a day option and an hourly service though, because I'd expect many people using the Portsmouth route are possibly aware that the all-day repeating patten includes a train once an hour the long way round. (Although didn't that used to show as a Cosham service on the displays at one time?) You'd hope when the new service comes up on the main display at Waterloo that the irregular calling pattern after Woking would be a bit of a giveaway - but there'll always be someone who gets it wrong.

Stock off 11.21 KGX - SUN will run ECS to Heaton.
Stock to form 14.06 SUN - KGX will run ECS from Heaton.

So not the same unit working both trains.

Not looked yet, but Sunday services in Yellerbelly Country will be restored on the Lincoln - Mkt Rasen - Grimsby route and Skegvegas services will commence earlier for the summer than they are in winter as per usual.

Thats good news for connecting parts of Lincolnshire.

We have asked Northern Rail if they can run the " Saturday Only " Sheffield Midland - Cleethorpes Via Brigg services on Bank Holiday Mondays this year as it would prove to be very popular, were still waiting for a responce :(

Doesn't seem to be many newquay extensions for XC. Unless I'm missing some. PDF format timetable in a4 is so alien to me lol

The usual 2 trains to/from the north and 1 train to and from Plymouth each Saturday are running.

Caught my eye looking on real time trains that Chiltern services are only planned until 4th October whereas LM stuff on the same route is planned right up to the December change.

Any ideas anyone?

Isn't that around the time they change to leaf-fall timings? Could just be that, LM might not bother with so many changes?

"On Sundays a new journey will be introduced between Harrogate and York departing Harrogate at 1048 and arriving in York at 1130. In the opposite direction the current 1142 Knaresborough to Leeds will now start from York at 1115."

OTT suggests the Harrogate-York train is worked by the incoming 0954 ex-Leeds, which then sits in p1 for 18 minute before going off to York. Not sure why this isn't down a through service though.

When does the new timetable come into effect? I presume it will be publicly accessible sometime in advance to allow journey planning and advance purchases?

Sunday 19 May. It's been on NRE via journey planners etc for months now, and most TOCs have the new timetables up as PDFs too.

One that I've just found out about and that's local to me is that South Bank will be going hourly in both directions from 19th May. Currently it gets four trains per day each way at peak times so by going hourly that's a considerable increase in service provision! It'll be interesting to see if this has any impact on passenger numbers.

Virgin have redone their Saturday North Wales timetable. The current 0850 London Euston to Holyhead and return 1438 Holyhead to London Euston (the former Pendolino drag, now operated by a pair of Voyagers) will now operate at the same times they do as during the week, meaning that the northbound working loses it's Watford Junction call. Weirdly, on the 1st of June, the southbound train runs to it's old timings for some reason. Does anyone know why? Interestingly, there is also a new 1155 Holyhead to London Euston, formed from an ECS movement from Crewe, running via Middlewich and Delamere.

It is interesting to note that both Virgin and Greater Anglia have not put up their new timetables yet. They seem to be leaving it awfully late.

Virgin have finally put up their timetables, and for some reason have merged the Monday to Friday section with the Saturday section in the North Wales and West Midlands timetable. They have also redone their route map slightly.

And have also combined all 6 routes (previously 4 separate timetables) in one reasonably thick combined leaflet, which also includes a bit more introductory info on onboard services and a summary timetable of both Virgin and LM Trent Valley services between Euston and Crewe. Route B / C is also printed as M-S and Su, presumably as on the Wolves, Manchester, Liverpool and Chester routes the times don't vary too greatly between the weekdays and Saturday (especially routes A-C), and it would be a waste of money / space to print out two tables which will be 95%+ identical.
