Portsmouths were never 158s. Pre Voyager they ran to and Portsmouth & Southsea Low Level Platforms worked by 47s. There were facilities to run round there. This has already been discussed at great length on this Forum quite recently.

Another here who travelled on an imaginary 158 - all the way from Portsmouth Harbour to Preston. I'd had a few drinks but I wasn't so drunk I mistook a pair of 47's for a 158!

Bevan 175's definitely used to work Wigan-Blackpool North under First northwestern i rode a few used to ride a few Central liveried 158s on the line to? thats why the 180s were cleared for Wigan-Blackpool to

That is entirely possible as the 175 was cleared Preston-Wigan NW and to Manchester via Westhoughton/Atherton. The 175 wasn't used on Liverpool services as they weren't cleared via St Helens Central.

Yes, I had forgotten that Manchester - Blackpool / Barrow services ran via Wigan with Class 175s when there was engineering work on the route via Chorley, and also on some sundays.

I must apologise for vehemently insisting 158s had never worked XC to Portsmouth. From the number of posts quoting cases, I am obviously mistaken. I think it's now coming back to me.

Don't worry. It is easy to forget something that last happened several years ago.
