You couldn't make it up, pay a load of drivers off a few year back, and now recruiting again! They just didnt look at the big picture, always knew this would happen, loose a contract and the axe falls.

What actually happened last time (January) ? I thought that they all but scrapped the trainee recruitment because of the interest from qualified drivers.

PS: Has anyone looked at the form yet? It seems a bit short compared to last time.

I'm getting 3 pages in total, and the top of page 3 starts:

Selection Criteria
Please complete ALL sections of this form and sign the declaration on Page 4. Incomplete forms will not be considered.

..but there's no page 4

Your link works fine, but when I navigate their web site I can't find this page - how did you find it, was it a link on their vacancies page that has now gone? It's as if it's hidden now except to those using your link.:|

Anyone else noticed that the application form you download is incomplete?

It mentions the signature section on page 4, but ends at page 3!

Worse, they looked at the big picture and still decided to go ahead with the cull.

I wonder if the cash saved back then actually covers even 10% of the upcoming training and PQA costs...

The two vacancies at Tees were created when two Scots lads finally got an internal move nearer their homes.

Strange, I'm supposedly on hold for a Newport job and haven't heard anything, not that I'm bothered

Driver operators do more ground staff based work but I believe with db schenker they do some local mainline work also. In fact Newport cover Cardiff tidal and east usk yard as well as Ad Junction as far as I know.

Isn't Schenker due a new pay deal?

Talks are 'ongoing' based around productivity / retention package.

Basically, drivers want GB wages with DBS conditions - management want DBS wages with GB conditions.

Best of luck with that!

Driver Operator is another name for Maintenance Depot Driver

No it isn't.

This thread centres on DBS - a Driver Operator is basically enhanced groundstaff duties (on depot, remote locations, ballast and train operations on TIII's etc) as well as minor mainline driving to/from agreed locations normally within 20 miles of home location - the point is, they operate on the mainline (granted, quite short distances) but that means a full drivers course is required.

90% of Driver Operators I know at DBS are now fully-qualified mainline drivers in the main links so it's a nice little stepping stone to 'proper' driving :)

Just to clarify a few things that have been mentioned.

1. The salary is inclusive of the recent pay deal which was agreed 6-8 weeks ago.

2. Driver operator is essentially a yard driver however there are agreements for them to operate within a 5 mile radius of their yard location but at most depots this is unheard of. I do believe an Operator position would lead to natural progression into Mainline driving in the future.

Emailed there HR this morning, and yes the form is correct, it is in pdf format though, so you either write it out my hand and then scan and send as a PDF or convert it, print out the declaration sign it scan it and send! I
If you want something bad enough your going try every angle at getting your foot in the door.

I sent an e-mail yesterday concerning the application form and the lack of page 4, it was a typing error. Since trying to open up the application form on the web page from the first post, the application form comes up with 404 error :-x

Could anyone post up the PDF file for the application form?

Thanks,
Rob

It seems a new form (of sorts!) is now available. Surprised by how little information is required. No competency questions or examples?
Have any of the guys who sat and presumably passed the recent DBS assessments and been on hold heard anything with regards to being considered for these vacancies?
How do Driver Operators qualify? I cant imagine the hours-based method would apply.

id apply if I had a 'c' in maths..... yet I can be a signalman without a 'c' in maths. thought it would be the other way around.

Do they really check your exam results. i'm ok I did quite well at school but this was over 20 years ago and I don't have any certificates to prove my results

My advice would be to apply anyway if you want the job,I think they needed 5 GCSSEs last time around and due my complete apathy at school, I only managed 4, I emailed them and they said they could not say if it would effect the application but to apply, I did and was invited to assessment.

Qualifications are meaningless now. No one checked up on my MSc, BSc, three A Levels and ten GCSEs. Its like I might as well have made them all up.

This. We were misled by clueless schoolteachers - "get loads of qualifications and cash them in for a good job and a Porsche when you leave school" - was the general message in the 70's & 80's. I would have been better off leaving at 16

It is exactly the same now. My cousin has spent the last few years stressing himself out to achieve twelve A stars at GCSE and three A's at A-Level due to being brainwashed by schoolteachers.

I'm finding out my GCSE results on Thursday and I've applied for two apprenticeships with one FOC and one TOC - just got an interview for the FOC this morning so it mustn't be that bad only getting Cs and Bs (what I'm predicted to get!)

Have looked at the learning contract on the DBS website and just wondered if anybody knows if this is a fairly standard version of such a contract as compared to other TOC/FOC's?
