Myth 30

Your ticket must be valid for the train you're on because the "man on the platform" said it was.

Myth 32

Privatised TOCs are only concerned with providing a good service to the travelling public.
Satisfying their accountants and shareholders comes nowhere near their aspirations.

Myth 33: The West Coast Main Line is one of the most punctual and reliable railways in the world.

Myth #34: It also has oodles of spare capacity just waiting to be assigned; since there isn't a train passing by every 10 seconds on each track.

Myth 33 - all trains provide perfect views of the passing scenery through the windows - especially in class 390's in standard class.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
On a positive note -and not a myth - the Travelling Chef on FGW is excellent - tremendous value for money and provides first class food to all classes ....

Myth 27 - the DfT does not interfere with train service specifications , is incredibly reactive to proposals for change - and welcomes changing the status quo ..

Myth 35 - Privatisation meant that control of the railways passed into private hands.

Myth: Even though Virgin is running some Euston-Birmingham trains with 5 car Voyagers, and First Class is often used to only 20% of seated capacity, the WCML is 'full'.

Myth 36: Since the Siemens Class 444 is no longer available, it is now completely and utterly impossible to order any 100mph EMU design with express passenger doors.

Myth #36. A random sampling of 16 middle-aged dog walkers in Great Missenden will provide an accurate overview of national public opinion on HS2.

Certainly agree with that and what about splitting a train or two to reduce the number of train paths required by Vermin?

Yes - I think maybe we need Myth 36a "It is beyond the ability of designers to design something backwards compatible - the moment those jigs are destroyed there's no way on earth that anyone could work out how to create compatible units - unless we find a bit of amber with a mosquito in in that contains Class 444 DNA like they did in that dinosaur film"

16 middle aged and retired dog walkers - (all socialist voters) - who had no issues with the M40 and M25 carving through the landscape , as it allowed their wives to get to the handy located John Lewis off the slip road of the latter.

Bitter , twisted - "moi!" .....

And I thought it was only the 16 middle aged dog walkers in Great Missenden who'd be able to afford to travel on HS2 - probably without their dogs..

Myth 37: HS2 is a giant conspiracy, designed to deliberately destroy as much of scenic Buckinghamshire as possible, purely so that poor people can afford houses there.

Myth 43: Flying is cheaper than the railway, and to prove this, it's perfectly fine to compare the cost of a flight from Stansted to Edinburgh booked six months in advance with a walk-up railway ticket from Kings Cross to Waverley.

Myth 11:

A reopened route must follow the exact path of the dismantled permanent way without deviation.

Myth 11(b):

Any route closed under dubious circumstances in the past 6 decades must by default have an overwhelmingly positive socio-economic business case for reopening today; any studies that demonstrate contrary-wise are written by those who don't have a clue.

Myth 48: Platform staff wait until just as you arrive on the platform to close the doors, and refuse to reopen them out of spite.
