After Durham blew Derbyshire away for 63 runs this morning they chased down the 37 runs required for the loss of one wicket leaving them with a 27.5 point lead at the top of the table. It's going to take some serious luck for Yorkshire now to overhaul Durham you'd have to say. I wonder what those that were predicting Durham for relegation are saying now...

In other news Clint McKay took a hat-trick (KP, Trott and Root) to leave England rocking on 8 for 3, they have now recovered to 40 for 3 from 16 overs requiring another 188 from 34 overs at 5.53 per over.

If this and the Essex match continue to be rained off, Lancashire are promoted.

This was the case with both the Lancashire and the Essex matches being drawn.

Considering that Essex are in third place, they really must have had an off-day in June of this year on their Chelmsford ground, when Lancashire dismissed them for 20 all out..:D

LV County Championship...Division One

Durham have won their Division One Championship today by beating Nottinghamshire by eight wickets. Congratulations..:D

As the last county to be elevated to the senior level, they have now won this Championship for the third time in the last six years. What is so good about this is the emphasis that they have placed upon bringing on players from the home region.

That must have been great! Would love to get up to C-L-S - looks a very pleasant ground on TV - next year to see a game (or at least a day), especially as it's likely to be Paul Collingwood's last year. He really deserves the plaudits that he is receiving, always will remain one of my favourite cricketers. Durham have also done so well relying on 'home-grown' talent. I must say that it is wonderful to see this and makes counties that hire-in 'stars' for a few games (at great expense) seem rather ridiculous!....especially when they fail to live up to the hype!

Lancashire are now Champions of the County Championship Division 2 as their match..and that of second-placed Northants...were drawn, with the weather affecting much of the Lancashire match....Not the Manchester weather to blame this time but that of their opponents ground..:D

Well done after just the one season in Division 2.

With the likes of Ben Stokes & Boyd Rankin impressing in the recent One Day series & are expected to be included in the Ashes touring party, does anyone think Graham Onion's Test career is now over?

Possibly - I would imagine that he would be seen as cover for Anderson, who - thankfully - doesn't break down. Different sort of bowler to Broad/Tremlett/Rankin....and he doesn't bat (except to save games in South Africa!) so would not be like for like cover for Bresnan either.

So what has Onions done NOT to be included in the touring party ?
Has he slept with a selector's wife, or clonked someone in a nightclub ?

Lancashire are in talks to sign Somerset's Jos Buttler as replacement wicketkeeper after releasing Gareth Cross.

In todays match against Kent, newly-crowned Division 2 champions Lancashire reached 269-8 at the end of day 1, helped by 134 not out from Ashwell Prince (1x6/17x4) which took him to the landmark of 1,000 runs for the season.

And a very unfamiliar side it looked too!

Wasn't Gareth Cross good enough for Lancashire or is Alex Davies a better Keeper & Batsman?

If the deal goes through for Jos Buttler (aged 23), with Alex Davies being aged 19, Lancashire will have two quite young wicket-keepers in the team squad.

Alex Davies was included in the England U-19 squad for the 2012 ICC cricket World Cup.

With regards to the England touring party, glad they've gone with Monty Panesar, but James Taylor and Graham Onions even more so, must be gutted, still as long as we beat Australia again, i'll agree with the selectors

The most unusual Lancashire pace bowling attack helped to dismiss Kent for 260 on the second day...Jarvis 3-72 and Newby 3-57...to give Lancashire a first innings lead of 24.

Northants have won promotion to the County Championship Division 1 after their nearest rivals Essex were bowled out by Hampshire in their first innings for only 207 in response to Hampshire's first innings total of 456. Being made to follow on, Essex were all out for 218 in their second innings.

Hampshire won by an innings and 31 runs.

And that wraps up the season for another year - unless you are waiting to see if Lancashire remain the only unbeaten side in the Championship

Lancashire "made hay" at Canterbury in their second innings against Kent, as at tea on the third day, they had scored 283-2, which by close of play was extended to 393-5 declared (Horton 106, Prince 108 (second hundred in the match)) to set Kent a target of 418 to win, to which Kent replied to with 32-1.

It must be a really good batting track at The Oval....

Yorkshire 434 all out
Ballance 148
Ansari 4-70

Surrey 572-4
Sibley 220 not out....Yongest ever double centurion for Surrey (18 years 21 days)
Amla 151
Burns 82
Solanki 51

Further to day 3 matters, day 4 saw Kent recover from 142-4 in their second innings against Lancashire to inflict the first defeat of the season on Lancashire. The inexperienced pace attack chosen for this final match of the season by Lancashire was cruelly exposed as after 91.4 overs bowled, Stevens with a most impressive 205 not out led Kent to a winning second innings total of 418-8.

They needed Essex to slip up after getting dicked by Worcestershire within 3 days (Moeen Ali taking 6 wickets in the 2nd innings).

Somerset have confirmed that Jos Buttler will be leaving the club to join Lancashire, as the player wants more first-class match experience to aid his hopes of an international wicket-keeping career and his opportunities at Somerset were limited to just three county championship match in the season just ended.

Rather strange to note that both Durham and Lancashire, this seasons champions of Division One and Division Two, lost their final games of this season, despite both of them having had a good run-in to the end of the season.

I'll say this about Indian batsmen (from watching the IPL), when they get in, they can score a lot of runs very quickly ....

Indian pitches are higher scoring than English/South African ones. It's not just the players.

England lost that one 3-0 though.

Well, SA can only lose this 2-0! England didn't bowl at all badly in the UAE but were really let down by the batsmen - all at sea against Ajmal and Rehman if I recall correctly.

With Pakistan in mind, it seems that Mohammed Amir, the 21 year-old fast bowler who was jailed for six months and received a five-year ban from cricket as a result of the 2010 "spot-fixing" affair, has had representations made to the ICC to see if he could be given a reprieve to play domestic cricket.

Anyone with views on this matter?

In a show of solidarity, no less than 15 of the Lancashire team squad have signed new contract deals, even the "Peter Pan" ageless player Glen Chapple.

After the solidarity of the playing staff in signing new contracts, Lancashire chief coach Peter Moores has now signed new contract forms keeping him with the club until 2015.

Western Australia Chaiman's XI (1st innings)....369-4 (90 overs)

This is what happens when England, being over-confident and underestimating the strength of the opposition and over-estimating the ability of a pace attack not fully tried and tested on Australian wickets....Spot the only bowler below with much experiance....
Anderson.......16-7-31-1
Tremlett........17-4-71-0
Rankin...........18-1-87-1
Finn..............18-0-87-0

It's early days in Australia with only 5 of the current team certainties for the test, I would say. Of some worry, though, were the two dropped catches - I don't think England have really been able to replace Collingwood and Strauss successfully in the slips.
