Does anyone know what the incident was this morning at about 07:45 between the above two stations?

All the services in and out of Wakefield were suspended and we were advised to go to Kirkgate to get trains to Leeds.

Also, whilst waiting at Wakefield Kirkgate, I saw on the opposite platform a 142+158 going to Nottingham (around 08:20). I thought 142's weren't cleared for Nottingham? :?

Saw on NRE this morning it was a road vehicle bridge-strike at Outwood.

142s / 144s have been all the way to Nottingham before.

I went to Outwood station for the 07.59 (ex Doncaster) to Leeds. The PIS screen was saying there had been a bridge strike in Outwood and the 07.49 and 07.59 were "delayed and please wait for further announcements". The 07.59 to Sheffield was cancelled and rumours were going around that it had been diverted via the Midland route to Wakefield Kirkgate.

The nearest bridge which could have been struck between Wakefield Westgate and Outwood is in fact in Wrenthorpe! where the line crosses above the old Bradford Road. All the bridges in Outwood are where the ROAD is OVER the line.

Anyway I assume engineers must have inspected it quite promptly as the 07.59 eventually arrived from the Wakefield direction at 08.15. However the 07.49 just disappeared off the information screen! Was it turned back at Wakefield Westgate?

So a vehicle hitting a bridge parapet would not be classed as a bridge strike and not likely to cause any delay to trains?

If this WAS the case it could explain why the line was cleared so quickly as presumably the inspection required is much more straightforward than that needed for load bearing beams etc.
