What will happen to trains during the 2014 commonwealth games in Glasgow next year? Will all the lines in and out of Glasgow get extra services and trains to and from the nearest venue?

Also will this apply to my local station carnoustie by getting extra trains and services for the shooting venue at Barry Buddon?

Probably a little too early to get an answer on this yet.

I hope it's not too early! I would hope that planning is pretty well sorted by now.

My expectation would be something between Manchester 2002 (bit of strengthening and some late night reliefs) and London 2012 (huge!!!!). And more akin to Manchester than London!

They probably have an idea but will announce at a later stage when plans moved more towards finalisation.

I have had to book accommodation in Edinburgh for the games because the prices in Glasgow were crazy, so I'm hoping there will be some additional late night services.

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
One thing that's for sure: electrification of Springburn to Cumbernauld should be online by then.

A pity it is not continuing onwards to Edinburgh via the northern section of the Caledonian main line and Falkirk Grahamston. This would provide a handy alternative route to Falkirk High when that route is closed.

One thing is not clear yet in regards of electrification of the (what's it called?) Cumbernauld line. There is presently no Sunday service to Springburn via Glasgow Queen Street low level and Bellgrove (possibly with the exception of Sundays in December up to the one before the 25th), but there is one train per hour on Sundays that runs from Queen Street high level to Cumbernauld all year round. Would the Sunday service after electrification just be a Springburn - Cumbernauld shuttle using electric trains, a diesel service Queen Street high level to Cumbernauld as per the present case, or an electric service Cumbernauld to either Milngavie, Dalmuir, or Balloch Central?

Also if the Scottish Government and Transport Scotland are serious about getting people to use public transport to the east end of Glasgow from various parts of Scotland to the Games, Glasgow Crossrail needs to be up and running. The infrastructure is already in place (City Union Line from Bellgrove station to Shields Juction) and will cost very little in overhead line electrification and reopening Cumberland Street and Glasgow Cross stations, compared to the money that is being spent on London Crossrail.

In peace

Trains are now stopping at Dalmarnock Station on a Sunday. After 10:30am, they stop at the station.

Transport Scotland is against Glasgow Crossrail so it's not going to happen.

You have to remember that Glasgow has a far larger suburban rail network than Manchester - second only to London.
