Hi all, Newbie here so please be gentle and apologies in advance if this is in the wrong category!

My question is can anybody give me details of what all the track re-alignment and extra signalling is for at the section of track between Barnhill and Springburn in Glasgow?

I know that it is to do with the Electrification of the Cumbernauld Line and have heard that trains to/from Cumbernauld will eventually go via the Springburn Branch and Queen St Low Level as opposed to using Queen St High Level via Cowlairs Chord.

So could any one explain how the train would and where it would reverse etc?

Many thanks.

The current service is between Springburn and Balloch/Dalmuir.
In days gone by passengers for Cumbernauld had to catch the Electric service from Queen St Low Level and change to a DMU service at Springburn, then they built the Cowlairs Chord and ran Sprinters direct into Queen St High Level, this to me seems a backward step making the full journey longer?

Some info here: http://www.egip.info/projects/cumbernauld-electrification

We will be providing a new double track arrangement at Sighthill Junction (immediately to the east of Springburn station) to provide enhanced operating flexibility at this location.
Springburn junction will be extensively re-modelled as part of this phase of work.
Delivery will encompass all appropriate civils, track, points, junction signalling and telecoms infrastructure required for this route.

As I understand it, when electrification is complete the Dalmuir-Springburns will reverse at Springburn and continue to Cumbernauld, thus allowing one of the two Queen Street HL to Cumbernauld traisn to be taken off and free up some capacity in QSHL during the remodelling and electrification there. However when these are complete the intention is to return the Cumbernauld services to QSHL.

Ok, fair enough but what is baffling me is they have installed a signal at the Springburn end of the Queen St (City) bound platform and also a crossover from that road over to the one that heads for Springburn?
I cannot for the life of me think why? The only thing I can think of is, are they going to close down platform 2 ( the one you would get off at coming from Queen St) and possibly single the line between Alexandra Parade and Barnhill?

Extra set of points for us to maintain and fault here too.IBCL type.
Believe with the new layout trains coming from Cumbernauld can pass through at slightly quicker spped-25mph as oppose to 10mph for old layout.
