Am surprised that the whole complex has not been renamed the James Arthur University Hospital.

Construction was due to start Summer 2013. Not seen anything in the public domain but Tees Valley Unlimited is subject to FoI Act :)

There was supposed to be improvements to 11 stations to be delivered as well as this new station.

Of which there have been. New shelters and screens at Dinsdale, new screens at Eaglescliffe. But nothing on the order of what was first discussed.

They've also put in new (worse) PA's and I believe hearing aid loops at all stations on the Tees Valley Line but that's about it. Which is disappointing really.

Interestingly the station is already on Google Maps! Seems they have jumped the gun a bit...

Google Maps automatically takes various coordinates from Wikipedia articles if they've been added.

Although in this case it would seem to be a user submission as it's not quite in the same place that Wikipedia points to, and it's been abbreviated differently.

It seems Google or a user of it has also managed to get rid of Okehampton and Sampford Courtenay stations too.

Thanks for submitting this information.

I mentioned this in passing to the Northern Rail customer relations team in Leeds when I was discussing another matter and the young lady that I was speaking to claimed that she knew of no stations that were to be opened..

Probably optimistic but parking is a nightmare.I think the other problem is patients/staff living near the stations on that line Stockton Thornaby Billingham and Middlesbrough aren't particually near the main housing areas so until the tram network that keeps getting mentioned actually happens i cant see 813 happening. I would love to be proved wrong though

Is this going to be a new station that misses it's forecast?

Tees Valley Metro as a brand has been quietly dropped because of the connotations with a Light Rail scheme that is not going to be arriving.

The whole package as proposed should work and be successful but the area is unlikely to ever see the whole thing delivered let alone as one coherent package in fairly short time scale.

Oh i agree, i just don't see the new station attracting significant passengers without an aligned increase in services. Hopefully possible towards end of CP5. Although i doubt it.

I suppose the estimates are based on the fact that the station will be used by people from the nearby estates, and not just people going to and from the hospital.
It will be quite a useful station for people living nearby.

I noticed the platform has been built on the old track bed, from when it was dual track, that limits any chance of the old track being re-instated any time soon.

Not that the line is crying out for re-doubling.

Looks good on the whole and might mean they still make or aren't far off the original May 2014 target for opening.

It's showing up in journey planners from the May timetable change (you can't search directly for trains but it'll show up as a calling point on a Middlesbrough-Nunthorpe service).

The e-NRT doesn't include a date for the start of service though.

Northern's new timetables (2 and 5) include JCUH on both the map and in the tables and give no indication that it wouldn't be open when the timetable commences. Perhaps locally produced literature on stations will imply otherwise however.

Passing it tonight it is coming on well. Back of platform fencing up.

Not seen any local publicity.

I do wonder how much use it will get as the connections in Middlesbrough are poor.

The best suggestion I heard in terms of serving the station came from a TPE guard who thought that services that now currently terminate at Middlesbrough should instead run through to JCUH and terminate there. That would give an hourly service using DDA compliant stock which would have reasonable connections to/from other services at Middlesbrough as well as offering direct services to stations further afield.

It might be a bit a challenge in terms of timetable but it certainly made sense to me!

the new timetable has 11 services from Newcastle to JCUH mon-sat and of these 8 start from Hexham mon-fri and 10 on saturday

I think TPE should start a morning service from Whitby that arrives into Middlesborough by 0830 by calling at certain stops such as Grosmont, Danby, Battersby, Great Ayton then all station to Middlesborough. Anything in between should be request stops as it would offer a decent enough service in the morning so to offer a decent connection to places of emplyment in Middlesborough.
