A bit like Donny then. I have been there a number of times and only had my ticket checked once.

Last time I user that lounge you had to ring a buzzer and show your pass to some sort of camera.

Can't seem to find a definitive answer to this on the EC Rewards site, nor a dedicated contact email address for enquiries.

I will be traveling soon on EC and have some Rewards points to use up. I can use 50 for a First Class Lounge Pass for myself, but can I get another for my son who will be traveling with me?

The T&C state
'4. This reward cannot be transferred, exchanged for cash or re-sold'
but the same applies to tickets which are commonly bought for other people.

Anyone know whether I can present 2 passes and get us both in?

Well tickets can, I often get 2 with my free ticket allocations, for me and my partner. See no reason why not, same day means you couldn't use 2 yourself anyway.

They have a "Contact Us" form on their website. But to answer the question, I am (or was until I found out that I probably need to get to Finsbury Park) planning to take my Mum into the KGX Lounge using my points. I asked them about this and their response was:

East Coast Customer Services said:
Dear Mr West

Thank you for your email received 12 January 2014 regarding your East Coast Rewards.

In response to your question, you will be permitted to bring your mother into the 1st Class Lounge using your East Coast rewards points.

Thank you for contacting us.

Yours sincerely

It would seem to be common sense to be able to use the pass for someone else, because if you make a lot of leisure journeys with a partner you are going to book your tickets together and not have an account each and log on individually and book one each. But having said that, despite the reply above, the actual terms and conditions don't appear to allow it:

15.1.4 With the exception of train ticket Rewards, Points and Rewards can only be used by the individual who is a Member of the Scheme and are not transferable. Membership Rewards must not be re-sold. If any Rewards are suspected by East Coast to have been sold by you to a third party, East Coast has the right to terminate your membership in accordance with clause 9.1

Now the Euston lounge is apparently closed for several weeks due to some much needed TLC, will there be any alternative arrangements in the interim?

If you go to the Lounge you get given a voucher for one of the concourse refreshment stands I believe.

If you go Manchester/Macclesfield 1st class return, does this entitle you to use Picc's 1st class lounge outward and inbound?

Yes, it can be used in both directions provided your ticket is valid on Virgin Trains. It there is a revenue block on arrival at Piccadilly, just ask to keep your ticket to use in the lounge.

Ta. Might make a nice half-day out when I'm off next week!

Wakefield Westgate, since the opening of the new station, now has a new lounge :)

So if it is Any Permitted (valid on any TOC on the route) is would be valid?

I had a peek in passing the other day, and it is tiny. Probably a big bigger than the old lounge but I am surprised that they didn't allocate some more space considering that it is a new-build.

Definitely bigger (though no more seating). Certainly wouldn't pay an extra fiver to use it on an advance ticket (I might for the London one).

The Euston lounge is currently closed for refurbishment. According to the information desk, aside from being able to obtain free drinks and pastries from selected outlets at Euston, First Class passengers are allowed to travel on earlier services during 'quiet periods'. Does anyone know what counts as a 'quiet period'?

I also received one of these vouchers on Thursday and got a free hot drink from Upper Crust. Was advised about being able to travel earlier on a 1st Advance but as I was using an Anytime ticket, this was irrelevant. Wonder also how this works in practice and if all TMs are aware of this relaxation.

Could anyone please tell me what refreshments I can expect around 10am midweek in this lounge. Do the offers change throughout the day as on the trains. Thank you.

Throughout the day there is tea, coffee, herbal teas, coke, diet coke, still water, sparking water and orange juice. Ice cubes are also available.

Croissants with butter/jam/honey(who has honey with croissant!?) are available from early morning until they run out (typically around 11am). After that all that is available are some mediocre biscuits (I wish they would bring back those delicious Bronte biscuits!).

Also fruit throughout the day (usually apples and bananas, sometimes oranges). Sometimes there will be bags of crisps (Tyrells Chips).

The fruit tends to run out fairly early in the day. I've been in every week but haven't seen the crisps since October last year.

A selection of other hot drinks are also available, such as cappuccino or hot chocolate. In terms of reading material, The Times is usually available plus a TV showing BBC NEws. Staff are on hand to assist, such as finding out a train's platform before boarding is announced - I find Jimmy, in particular, is always very helpful.

Just in case it may be of use to anyone else in future, I should report that I had no bother using two different passes to admit two people on Tuesday of last week. We were in the Kings Cross lounge at lunchtime and again late evening, and on each occasion the staff checked the dates and the ref numbers and were quite happy to let us both in.

Same here. I have done this lots of times, at various different times and they always accept us as long as we have two different lounge passes.

I was advised at Euston today when collecting my voucher that until 17 March (when lounge reopens), 1st Advance ticket holders travelling with VT can travel on a service up to 2 hours before their booked departure. Lounge staff stamp the ticket so one assumes all TMs are aware of this.

Doesn't really apply to me as I tend to travel on Anytime tickets, but potentially a cost-effective way to travel earlier in the AM/PM peaks and travel on a full breakfast (until 1000) or evening meal (1700-1900) service.

Ooo hadn't thought of that - good point! I guess this only applies when departing from Euston I assume? Not, say, from Manchester?

Does anyone know if the Virgin Trains First Class lounge at Euston will open tomorrow as per the date quoted on the VT website? I am making a Journey tomrrrow on a 1st Advance and wanted to know to help me plan my day, as I would probably spend some time in there to see what it's like if its open!

Yes, due to open tomorrow. Apparently, the new Lounge has more seating capacity. May pop by tomorrow eve before heading north.
