just an update... with so many phone interviews getting booked up they are continually making appointments available.
I received another email saying that if i didnt book my appointment they would take it as though i didnt want to progress.
Called HR who said to ignore this as they are aware of the issues and low and behold- telephone interviews available on 3rd march. Just a weekend to practise in time with examples

Good Luck everyone

This is for trainee drivers mate,

I've got through to phone interview as well, noticed though that each depot is only looking for one trainee. I noticed that I couldn't do the 2nd online test on my iPad, but when I switched my pc on I got through to tests fine.

Good luck to all applicants!

Do you need a mouse for the second test?

Thought someone said it's a quick selection test.

Yes you need a mouse for the second test. I'd recommend that any applicants does the practice tests before they start the main test, at least then you'll know what the main test is going to be like.

Well I did both my tests last night. Think I ballsed up my second part though :(

Is booking the phone interview an automated thing based on the test scores or do people look at you before deciding that you are rubbish? :)

As in as I haven't heard back yet would that because A) my second test score was poo or b) because it's a Sunday?

I completed my 2nd test at about 8:30pm, and got my email to book a phone interview at about 2:30pm the following day.

Just got the email through for a phone interview! I have absolutely no idea what they will ask, no idea what I should prepare for. Will be doing a lot of firstgroup research I think!

It's a competency based interview. Think more 'what motivates you to want to become a driver? ' or'what demonstrates good customer service? '. You will need examples too, Best to use the star technique. I.e. Situation, Task, Actions, Result.

What's the reasoning behind the 6 month block on reapplying?

A number of reasons. If you were to pass, your test results would be valid for other tocs & focs and there would normally be nothing stopping you applying for other companies. I think this is a cost saving measure as the tests are conducted by third partys. If you were to fail, it gives you a break before using your last chance as you only get two cracks at it.
This is only applicable if you sit the assessments though. There is nothing stopping you applying for as much as you want unless you physically sit the assessments which does not include the online sifting exercises.

Had my phone interview today, despite answering everything with clear and concise replies, I doubt very much I'm through any further. Interview only takes about 20 minutes, but believe me it feels like hours! Was told I'll get the results in a maximum of 4 weeks, but like I said, I think I already know the answer. :|:|

Rejection Email from First says I can't apply for another driver position for 6 months, even though I only got to stage 2! :-?

Then this is just Firsts recruitment policy. Does not stop you applying elsewhere.

I had my phone interview today too, every time i spoke she went " mmmmm" in a really off-putting manner. Think it could only have been worse if i'd been on fire, not confident at all of further progression. Time will tell, hmm? :)

I suppose its hard to judge not being face to face. What was the focus as I cant imagine its possible to get through much in the 20 mins, any info required on the TOC or purely competencies?

I wouldn't be despondent just yet Fred Dinenage, I felt my interview was rushed and I don't think I really finished answer before I was moved onto something else. I was even interrupted at the end to say the interview was over. I feared the worst but received email the next day to say I had passed. Fingers crossed for you mate.

Same here mate. I thought it was automated as it kept doing it while i was mid sentence. Either that or it's designed to test concentration whilst being distracted.Good hmm luck.

What questions were you asked?
Was it automated?

Needn't have bothered researching there operations as they tell you all about them before the interview starts. Other than that it's all about why you want to drive trains, and when you've given good customer service. I genuinely don't think I've got through, so I won't be disappointed when I get the heave ho email. Good luck.

Best way to be, don't think you have it in the bag until you actually know you do.

I did my online assessments yesterday. The one where you compare the numbers/letters is very similar to the one I have done for Northern, which I have passed every time. Although I found the FTPE one harder because of the time limit shown at the top of the page. Without a doubt, that little timer made it much more difficult, I couldn't take my eyes off it <(
