Sadly no Sir Nigel. Appears that NR have deemed the line from Norwich to Sheringham unsuitable due to weight restrictions. :(

Statement from NNR here:
http://www.nnrailway.co.uk/page.php?pid=40#60007

I have no idea why the apparent original clearance has been withdrawn at this late stage.

See my thread on the matter. Most confusing situation, and I find myself wondering whether someone at NR is anti-steam, and has found a weight restriction loophole to get their way. Surely the only other explanation is that permission should never have been granted in the first place?

The Swanage Diesel Gala which is on even as I post this, seems to have a subtle Network SouthEast theme.

Does anyone know if there is a reason for this; or was it just seen as a fun thing to do!?

Visited yesterday (Friday), and it was well-supported and well-run.

The Irish Traction Group (ITG) is to hold a diesel gala at the Downpatrick & Co. Down Railway (DCDR) on Saturday 18th October 2014 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the formation of the ITG.

The Gala will commence at 11:30 and run to around 17:30. Motive power used during the day should feature locomotives A39, 146, G611, G617 and hopefully C231 (subject to availability). C231 is currently operational, but still requires some further testing. The Gala should feature the first passenger workings of locomotive C231 in over 30 years.

The ITG are operating a special connecting coach from Dublin to Downpatrick and back to connect with the event. Pick up/set down times are as follows:

Red Cow Luas Stop (08:30pu/19:40sd) - Dublin Heuston (St John's Road side, 09:00pu/19:20sd) - Dublin Airport Coach Park (09:30pu/18:50sd) - Downpatrick (11:30arr/16:50dep).

The fare for this coach connection (which also includes unlimited travel at the DCDR) is £17 or €20.

Places on the connecting coach MUST be reserved in advance, stating your full name, number of passengers, and intended boarding point. Payment will be collected on the day.

Bookings should be made to the ITG at the following e-mail address: [email protected]

Stapleford Railway Open weekend 23-25th August

As the BH weekend approaches, I have to confirm that in spite of efforts, we have been unable to get the East African 31 class loco back into reliable service and will now concentrate on redesigning the oil fire fuelling system to make it more reliable for the future

We are also still putting the NKP Berkshire back together after its 3 year outage and so the Loco rota for this August BH will be:

GWR Saint paired with either Curwen Green Atlantic or TBC visiting loco if available with the Curwen then running solo

New York central Niagara 4-8-4

Warship DH as required

First public service 10-00 each day of the 3 day BH weekend.
Ravenstone model railways attending with plenty of new and second hand stock

Breaking news
LNER V2 "Starlight" will visit the SMR for the first time over the BH weekend and subject to fitness exam , should be running double heading with the railways GWR Saint over the 3 days in the absence of EAR 31 class meaning there will be 4 locos in steam still

Edited. After gauging trials through points and curves tonight she is unfortunately unable to operate over the weekend and will have to be on static display only. Apologies from the team but safety always comes first The Saint will therefore lead with the Curwen Atlantic

On the 12th-14th of September the North Yorkshire Moors Railway has a diesel gala, of which I will be down for. Off the top of my head the locos should be D7628, 37264, 47402, 31466 and 55002

Also the Mid Norfolk Railway has a diesel gala on the 29th to the 31st of August, I will be down for that too, currently they have 31235, 47367, 47596, 73210, 45133, 08511 and 08683. The 08s are to do runs from Wymondham Abbey and the network rail boundary; I think they will be in Top and tail formation.
