Decided to enter :D A very rough calculation is 676 miles so far, still quite a bit to count! Using Oyster history for journey details.

I don't know why RTT shows the route around Briton Ferry in such as odd way, but in reality down trains using the Swansea District Line (such as 1B96 M-F) route via Briton Ferry and diverge from the main line at Court Sarn Jn, whereas up trains (such as 1B97) merge at Up Flying Loop Jn bypassing Briton Ferry station on the Up Freight.

I have not managed to get Rail Miles Engine to give me the exact route as it seems to go in and out of Briton Ferry. Anyone got this mileage and the return
which calls at Carmarthen which the outwards does not

Railmiles gives me these ones below as your mileage.

For 1B97,

Thanks for you help, Railmiles is correct it is Real Times Trains that is at fault it shows a sort of reversal at Court Sart Junc that does not happen as I found out when I did it yesterday. I should have twigged looking at the times that something was wrong as it seems to get from BNF to CSJ and back within a minute which is highly unlikely. See below

Briton Ferry East pass 1134 No report
Briton Ferry U.F.L. Jn. pass 1134½ No report
Briton Ferry [BNF] pass 1135 pass 1132½ 2E
Court Sart Jn pass 1135 No report
Briton Ferry [BNF] pass 1135 No report
Briton Ferry U.F.L. Jn. pass 1135½ No report

What countries are you interested in? There are a variety of sources for many countries both in print and on the internet.

I'm looking at France currently and have these mileages (give or take a few ch)

Marseille- Marne-la-Valee 453m 45ch
Paris Nord - London 306m 08ch

But I'm struggling to find distances for RER A/B and Marseille Airport to Saint Charles.

The above distances I got from adding the high speed lines up from distance on wikipedia.

France is the one country that I tend to avoid! My usual source for kms was this site but it does not appear to show them any more (though I am currently using a rather old computer which does not have the latest browser installed so am getting some blank pages which might show up on something more up-to-date).

The other source that I have for France is three books by Stuart Clarke which are probably the most comprehensive source of such info, Stuart's contact details can be found on this page if you would like to purchase some copies.

London St Pancras to Paris Nord is 491.75km / 305 m 46 ch according to Stuart's book; can't comment on Marseille to Marne-la-Valee as I haven't a clue as to which route to follow

RER lines A and B are in the first volume (9a) of the books. Assuming Marseille airport is known as Vitrolles then it is 23.2km / 14m 34ch from Marseille St. Charles.

These are brilliant, Thanks! I got close with the Eurostar distance which was calculated by adding HS1/LGV Nord/Channel tunnel together.

The Route for Marseille - Marne La Vallee is
Marseille
Aix-En-Provence TGV
Avignon TGV
Valence TGV
Lyon St Exupery
Marne La Valee

(I'm not sure for the bits in between stations)

I will definatley have to consider getting a book.

Thanks, Alex

I didn't reailse it would have been the same price via Birmingham and would have not included a wait of almost an hour at Tamworth!

2813 for me now

Had hoped to get some mileage round Slovenia, but the ice storm damage put paid to that!

Got a few things coming up though that should help boost this :)

Blimey! You are doing better than I am this year.

Fear not, he's also doing far better than me, as I'm only on 2,647 so far this year. Not overly bad for a month and a half (17th February to 29th March) though to be fair, I'm well behind on what I should be on by now though :(

Went though the 5000 miles at the weekend, quite good for only leisure travelling

I'm in much the similar boat :D No commuting, lots of local trips, a few longer days out - all for leisure. Totally surprised at how many miles I'm actually getting through :D

258.3 miles covered yesterday going to Cardiff for the challenge

441.73 for me, I did it from Crewe in the day :D

And 474.77 for my Colne/Bishop Auckland/Durham Coast/Hadrians Wall/S&C day out

Fudge, some of you are really doing well! Makes one wonder if any of you have to work all week! ;)

2,973 for me so far, not bad considering my year started on 17th February! Only cost around £280 so far too :) Have a look if you like at where I've been this year: http://techniquest.railmiles.org/

I would love it if I didn't have to work! But then I wouldn't be able to afford to go out. I'm contracted for 45 hours a week but it is near 50 I work. And working weekends is a real pain as it gets in the way of many rail galas. This weekend I'm off however and will be making the most of it.

Another 13 hour day exploring the wilderness of Reading to Alton via Ascot (returning via Virginia Water), and Reading to Droitwich Spa, will get around to adding up the miles tomorrow

Ouch! I sympathise regarding galas and tours, I have the same problem there. Irritating as you get people asking if you're doing such and such, no I can't because I'm working and can't get time off! I get Sundays and Mondays off and it's impossible to do owt with Sundays due to no buses and, let's face it, the need to seriously unwind and recover after an insanely busy week. So Mondays are the only days I can do owt, but with limited funds it's difficult to do any of the trips I want :(
