All he really needs is to get away from Chelsea - the "dressing room" there didn't let him take the place of their beloved Didier

His current form started in his last 6 months at Liverpool, which was what surprised me in the sale price of £50m.

Poor Arsenal

If they don't massively improve they will find themselves fighting it out against Man Utd in the Europa League next season with both Liverpool clubs in the Champions League.

And come on Liverpool, smash West Ham.

Steven Gerrard somehow managing to score an own-goal from the penalty spot (yes I know the BBC has got the score the wrong way round)

The first Man City goal wasn't a penalty, the second was a couple of yards offside. Can't comment on the other two as I went out for a walk. :D

What about the second Liverpool goal? <D

FYI I am aware the WHU goal should have been disallowed for a foul on the keeper

Now no need to make jibes at MattE2010 - by the way are you not a Celtic supporter if I remember correctly ;)
No jibe at anybody. Indeed I am, our very own 'Morton' this season  At least RFC are still in the Scottish Cup as it stands
In other news Chris Hughton has been sacked at Norwich City, a complete gamble by a normally sensible club, shocking

Well I hope that is a more "successful" sacking than some of their fellow strugglers - ie Cardiff, West Brom and Fulham.

By this measure Lambert at Villa should follow shortly

No jibe at all. We were, and I'll be honest, absolutely pathetic; Raith deserved it. Lord only knows why we started with just Jon Daly up front - it just doesn't work when you follow: Obtain ball -> Hoof it up top to Daly -> Make a mess of it -> Try again. We have an alarming amount of deadwood and needless players in for a squad that is two years old. The only players I would actually like us to keep are Cammy Bell and Lee McCulloch. Aside from a few youngsters the rest of the senior squad I would happily flog to whoever wants them. If we play like that next year we'll get absolutely annihilated in every game we play.

Hughton won't have relegation on his Cv now then.

I have had a dream that Crystal Palace won 3-0 at Cardiff on Saturday.

Prior to Saturday they had gone 6 matches without scoring an outfield goal- only two goals scored- one penalty and an own goal.

Prior to Saturday had only scored 6 goals away from home all season.

We weren't playing Man City. I don't know what you are talking about.

As for West Hams goal today Carroll should probably have been booked, let alone letting the goal stand.

Liverpools second penalty was the referee trying to make up for the awful decision he made for the West Ham goal. I imagine he spent half time face palming.

Hughton won't have relegation on his Cv now then.

I see that the youth coach Neil Adams has been nominated as his replacement, which looks to be a stop-gap appointment until the end of the season.

Have you seen the teams that Norwich City still have to play in the Premiership before the end of this current season ?

True to form the BBC has managed to include 2 current Man U. members of staff on its world cup panel in the bone idle Ferdinand and the terminally boring Neville.

Nothing it seems will ever stop the BBC with its obsession with that team.

There two being the "occasionally selected" and easily forgotten Ferdinand and the totally-forgotten one of the two Neville brothers, who no-one now really associates with that particular club these days.

Had you not made this posting, they would have not even come to my mind.

It doesn't alter the fact that having 2 current members of staff of Man U. is unprecedented.

I may be wrong but I don't think any other broadcaster has ever employed 2 pundits currently working for the same club.

It's quite obvious that the BBC is only employing the Man U. assistant coach because his brother does a very good job at Sky.

How on earth are these 2 supposed to be impartial commentating on their "mates."

No he won't. For the simple reason that in the owners eyes he is doing a good job. Reducing the wage bill. Not spending much. Staying in the Premier League. That was his remit. Mop up the last of the mess left by Saint Martin. In fact he is currently negotiating a new contract

But it hardly makes for exciting viewing in "The Holt End"

Bring back David O'Leary :p

"Mates" being a plural, would suggest that more than one Manchester United player would feature in the squad, but on current form, can you think of anyone other than Rooney as a Manchester United player featuring in the squad ?

Smalling and Welbeck definites, Jones, Carrick and Cleverley possibles.

There seem to be two prerequisites for selection for the England squad these days, neither of them is current form.

Hmm, I'm surprised at putting Smalling over Jones. I'd be more inclined to go with the latter.

Otherwise, can't disagree with that. I don't like saying it, but I think we're being a bit kind to Cleverley by calling him a possible. I mean he's not a bad player, but looking at it from a Man Utd perspective, he's too average to be anything but a squad player. Even from an England perspective, I'd be tempted to leave him at home. Sorry!

Agree about Cleverley I think he's very average but Hodgson does seem to see something in him.

As a matter of sheer interest, let the forum members say how many England players from the top ten Premiership clubs are likely to feature in this squad using Club and Player Names.

Being the lone supporter of Hyde on this football thread, I consider myself unable to participate...

He does - and to be fair to Cleverley he does have the odd good game. But apart from that, average is certainly the most apt description. He's only going to ever be a squad player for us, but I've got more patience with him than the likes of Anderson for example - at least Cleverley didn't cost us anything or come as 'a massive potential'.

Long-term he'll leave United to further his career, i'm sure of it.

As a Macclesfield Town season ticket holder for nearly 25 years I am similarly excluded, I suppose.

No, a referee can change his mind about a decision as long as play had not been restarted. If he originally awarded a penalty and then decided it was not a penalty, then a drop ball is the correct restart, and he can request one team not to contest the drop ball, so that the defending team can get the ball back.

I must admit a few years ago when Gary Neville turned up at Sky I thought that was a very bad idea, however he has proved me very wrong. He was very objective in the game against Manchester City & United, and went to a lot of effort to be impartial and take his job seriously.

If only the same thing could have been said about Roy Keane (scum) who ITV ended up apologising for during an FA Cup game between the same two teams where said "pundit" flat out refused to say anything positive about City. This was a few years back too, and it appears he has changed somewhat too...

To be honest as long as it's neither Adrian Bloody Chiles or Sir Baconface McTaggart himself it'll be ok.

Phil 8-)
