I've still got BR shirts kicking around somewhere lol.

As an aside, got a bit of a rollicking this year for walking around Drax wearing an EWS hivis vest - oops, was in a hurry and they all look the same with a bit of grease on them...

Lmao okay cool legrz1 a man who knows his stuff eh well just update peeps on here i just had my email to say DB Schenker have got my application and that currently their is 30 aplicants per vacancy! Also it will take many months to go through the applications and get back to me/us.

Aaron.

Was this email sent to you as a matter of course or did you make a seperate enquiry? Put mine in yesterday but not had any acknowledgment back, albeit I didnt expect one due to anticipated volume.

that sounds about right to the time scale they said to me this time because of the masses wanting to be a train driver these days.

Am i the only one who had a email for confirmation of them getting my application? Did you all follow the instructions of word 2003 to 07 or pdf? Add you contact details in the email and title the email as trainee train driver?

I replied by registered post as i had PC problems. Application was received by DBS on Monday. No word as yet...i received no word from DBS last time around until the assessment date came about a month after the closing date. Maybe this is a new approach, the email confirmation, and Aaron is the only suitable candidate ;)

I was looking at sending my application by post, did you just address to their HR department in Doncaster?

Would their Bristol location be Avonmouth?

Yes, the address was to Doncaster HR, it was on the top of the application form. No idea about Bristol, i'm at the other end of the country.

Kinda worried I haven't had an email to say they've received it, I sent mine off on Monday morning and haven't heard anything yet...

Try to forget about it if possible. No point trying to second guess HR departments. Maybe they started replying and got snowed under / can't be arsed anymore / alien invasion. Who knows?

Distance is a factor for me this time, i've sent exactly the same information in this one as last application that got through the sift. But i'm taking nothing for granted, early days yet! :)

hahaha nah not likely but i must admit the mrs uncle has pals in DBS as both to do with recruitment and a train driver instructor. Possible he has let them know im applying.
But i dont think its alien invasions its most likely the Cooplands Bap Van as a que ;)

glad i kept my Army injection mould ear defenders looking at what DBS run they have class 66/0 the originals where drivers kept striking over because of cabin noise haha megga but i asked somewhere why aint the EWS trains re-painted to DBS and loads have been just must be kept in sheds, you know, to stay clean.

Ear protection is provided and 'noise packs' installed on loco's some years ago - not sure where your info comes from re: drivers striking over cab noise though.

Yes, there are complaints (and most repair books are filled with noise related comments) but strike action?

yeah apparently in 2007 and i read it off wikipedia learning what trains DBS have and i saw info on class 66 and the 66/0 are the original types and it wasn't until the 66/4 did some yank company who built the 66 did that upgrade of buffers and stuff to reduce cab noise. the 66/9 is the latest with Freightliner and colas.

Just stuff i read up on then question it on here with current drivers knowledge and piece it all together. All 66's are T2 wit the engine for Euro rules on pollution. Im such a nerd... oh no am i turning into a spotter? im already a tank one lol

Are people seriously worrying about not hearing anything?

Give HR some time! I imagine they're snowed under and these vacancies will be more popular than ever...be patient.

If you're expecting an immediate response then the railway is the wrong industry for you.

GBRF management ?

;)

It's rare for them to mention DBS believe it or not.

Likely the rumours came from that charter company that spat the dummy a while back :D

You know that car train you mentioned?
GB MD bet GB sales team that they'd never get a sniff of the car market - well, they did and he (almost) honoured the bet...run naked down the street outside London HQ!

Well , maybe not to you . But to our ( potential ) customers .........

Whilst some of our ( local ) management tried to win a contract , they met with some of the management of the end customer . They said we weren't gonna even bother meeting with DBS because they keep hearing how bad we are from GBRF .

Registered to join in this thread as I emailed in my application today, hoping for Hither Green which is a leisurely 10 minute bike ride from my house, but I could easily get to Acton in 45 minutes on my scooter- and quite honestly I'm a bit fed up with living in London anyway, I could rent a decent flat in most places outside of the South East on the £21k training wages no bother! We've got no kids and my wife says she's fine with a change of scene.

I work for Arriva London buses ATM; Arriva were bought out by Deutsche Bahn a couple of years ago and the vacancy appeared on our internal vacancy email which is how I knew about it! But I guess I'm counting as an external candidate as Arriva are a completely different subsidiary to DBS.

Anyway I'm really hoping I pass the sift as I was a bus driver with a pretty good record before I got internally promoted...but I'm expecting a long wait! Good luck all!

Well, I'm not privy to such things but if the comments were backed up with something like stats for late running, cancellations or lack of traction/train crew then it's fair enough.

If it was hearsay and off the cuff remarks then it's very naughty.

Legzr1 is it you who is a driver for DB Schenker Rail? i think so... So whats it like for real to work for ze Germans haha are they flexible in anyway regarding short notice "i need this day off" because the mrs is a copper you see and she is on call for say riots and footie matches, she is trying to be pulled from the list because of my dream of being a freight driver and we have our son to think of too and his hobbies.

Do DBSr work mainly at night because thats what i was really hoping for, you know go to work at like 8pm or what ever and be home for the morning???
