I'm in the same boat, passed the new style tests early this year.

From what i've read on here, DBS get you to sit some additional tests.

Don't know what, maybe the mechanical comprehension or something like that. I'm sure someone will come along and correct me though.

I very much doubt you will have to sit them again. IIRC your passes are valid for 4 years no matter who the TOC / FOC maybe!
Sit back and enjoy the ride!:D

I was told be DBS HR that your results last 3 years then need resitting.

Also passed early this year but awaiting interviews if there is any left for this years intake.

Has stated above these recent vacancies are for 2015 intake

Hi there
Can we actually go and do the assessments privately on our own costs?
Sorry if this question sounded silly to anyone.
Cheers

Hi, tried searching for information about DBS driver operators but cant find much info.
Does anybody know the job description of a driver operator ? Is it equivalent to a depot driver/ shunter ? If so, do trainee driver operaters do part of the trainee driver training, then get additional training if they later progress to trainee mainline driver ?
Thanks & good luck to all who have applied.

when your in training do you learn to drive just one type of train? or dose that come up later so you learn on a 66 then when required do another course to drive another? or are trains generic in the way a car is, everybody can get into any car and drive it more or less right away.

Sent my email at 9pm last night and got acknowledgement back at 9am this morning, so I reckon I had the shortest wait of anyone!

Hi folks. If I apply it'll be from my depot drivers position so my question is what kind of progression is average for Driver operator to mainline, is it a depot to depot thing and is it based on seniority or merit?

Thanks

Driver Ops basically do the same as drivers except for a limited amount of mainline driving, so it would be train prep, shunting, some mainline driving (but not v far) and being the PIC (at some depots) and yards.

You go on the exact same course as trainee drivers, you just 'graduate' earlier than them.

Does anyone know where DBS do there assessments and training?

Assessments in Doncaster.

Current / past training is / was Doncaster, Toton, Knottingley and Didcot I believe.

Depending on the location of the Home Depot, you may need to lodge away for the training period (8-12 weeks I believe).

That's one of the reasons along with the lack of information on the application form that I think the HR department is having a bit of a jolly rather than advertising with serious intent.
I agree.
If a person of lets say in their 30's and 40's goes for the job and of whom could have some very serious and useful life skills, I don't think what they did in a doss house (school) 30 odd years ago is an accurate rendition of their character or what they are capable of now!

Seriously, I cannot believe the lack of information asked for on the application. GCSE's and last 3 jobs? With a description of job only on most recent one? Along with DOB and thats it? If they are getting hundreds of applications for what is probably a couple of dozen places, how on earth are they selecting from this criteria? Anyone with any knowledge of DBS know how they sift these at all?

I tend to agree as well. My last 2 jobs in the railway are not anyway associated with safety critical nature and I lived extremely close to the depot I previously applied for and DB Schenker reply was thanks but no thanks.

That's just the way it is. Maybe they're looking for people who applied themselves at school instead of dossing? Who knows?

Atishyou - thanks for the reply. I guess the current driver ops will be looking to get upgraded to mainline then..

Pure speculation on my part but could it be that they're filtering people based on their current (or most recent) relevant employment?

On the vacancy page they state what backgrounds they're particularly interested in, so could it just be based on that?

I have applied, I do agree the form was very vague, but I'm wondering whether the basic criteria must be met first i.e. qualifications and then a further degree of detail will be submitted later on. I had a reply acknowledging my application and they would be in touch although it may not be for several months.

I would just like to say the very best of luck to all of you that have applied.
Its a career of childhood dreams for most so i would like to think all of us do well!
I have seen alot of sniping and ****ing competitions on this forum ( not this thread ) and i think it would be more motivational to have a slight level of optimism and good sportmanship instead. :D

I have applied and also had reciept of my application.
I hope to all that is holy i have made the right impression within 3 pages of generalised information.

it seems kind of odd to me that you guys are wishing each other well when you are in direct competition with each other !

as for getting out by yourself after training , don't be in too much of a hurry .
once you are passed out , the buck stops with you .

mess up and you will be in the s**t !

take your time , LEARN as much as you can and don't be afraid to ask questions .

good luck .

I dont know about anyone else but im in no direct competition whatsoever.
The only person im competing with is myself and myself only, being competitive will not make my interview skills any better nor will it get me through my assessments ... only i can do do that and along my journey, hoping i do enough to get through then i also wish the others all the luck in the world to persue their desired occupation too.

Very good point with the not rushing into wanting to go it alone once competent, like you say, only you are accountable for what happens on that journey as soon as you step onto that train.
There is no rush at all, rushing creates problems and mistakes and this is the last occupation you want to be screwing up in.

I wasn't meaning you , specifically ff349 , just using your post to highlight my point .

but I disagree with the first part of your reply .
you are competing against all the other applicants , unlss you know you've already got the job .

the rest ?
couldn't agree more .

Indeed, i certainly understand what you are getting at, for sure, in respects to the 'sift' and interview i guess it is a competition of sorts.

i most certainly have not already got the job :D ... optimism aside for a second, i can see myself fighting fires for a good while yet  haha

heres hoping. ;)
