DB selling 60's, preserved 37's, 56's and 73's back on the mainline, any chance some of the better 58's will end up back in service?
Sounds like 'playing trains' to me...Heard DCR are still "Toying" with the idea of these.

I see a similar debate in this month's Railways Illustrated but do wonder why DBS would be prepared to sell 60's but not yet 58's

Is it DBS not being prepared to sell the 58s, or the fact that they're in that much of a state, they know it isn't worth it unless its to Booth's
A smallish batch of Super58s would surely be just as useful and worth the investment as anything like 56s
The only chance of seeing a 58 again is if France and Holland finish with them, which is highly unlikely for the foreseeable future, as unlike over here, they work well over there for some reason.
All those in France are stored (at Alizay?) and three of the ones in Spain (58025/027/050) are stored at Albacete. The rest in Spain, IIRC, were sold to the DBS arm Transfesa (I don't know how much use they see though).
Being someone who is quite young, I've never seen/heard a 58 running and probably never will
