Newcastle College to open new Rail Academy in September 2014

Due to the huge national growth and investment in the rail market the industry is predicting a significant skills shortage over the next 10 years. In order to meet this challenge and offer young people an exciting career pathway Newcastle College is opening a new Rail Academy to help train and deliver the rail engineers of the future.

The Academy will be the first of its kind in the north east, and is being developed in conjunction with the National Skills Academy for Railway Engineering (NSARE) and key rail employers such as Network Rail. The purpose built facility will consist of a number of real working environments, to be used to train technicians and engineers in a variety of situations. This will enable students to work in realistic operational scenarios.

A new Rail Academy is opening up in Newcastle.

Looks to be for the engineering side of things rather than any customer service or signalling type roles - I presume the signalling it talks about will be fixing/maintaining the signals rather than working in the control room.
