Just heard a plane which sounded like it was pretty low, also heard another one about 30 mins ago.
As far as I know I'm not on a flight path (I'm at home), and even if I was the nearest airport is miles away.

Area: Leicestershire, quite near to m1 J21

Big plane? Small plane? Fast or slow? Jet or prop? I just had a look on flightradar24 and can't see anything low by you at the mo or in the recent past. That said, it doesn't show everything, in particular military.

I know absolutely nothing about planes :)
The only thing I noticed was the noise and a really bright flashing light/s from the more recent plane...
I only posted as I had no idea and something didn't seem 'right'

Ha ha, no worries. Well you aren't a million miles from East Midlands Airport which gets a decent number of freight flights, could have been aircraft in a holding pattern for some reason. There are also a number of air bases not far from you.

I live quite close to Liverpool Airport. I know we are under the flightpath for a lot of aircraft very high up on transatlantic flights which I am used to. Planes travelling to and from Liverpool often fly over pretty low and they have regular flight paths but every now and again you see one going over low in a direction they don't normally travel.

We generally get low flying aircraft near us, but we're on the final approach into RAF Waddington and not much further from RAF Scampton - though the Red Arrows don't seem to venture over our village that often these days, which is a great relief as they are terrifying when you're not expecting them.

Recently had a very low flypast while working a train of a C17, 3 Typhoons and 3 Tornado GR4s practicing for the Queen's Birthday.

I would have liked to have seen that

I generally don't much traffic to/from EMA but even though it's a weekday there's been quite a few low flying craft about today.

I live quite close to the north-eastern flight path of Glasgow International. Have done for more than 15 years. I'm quite used to the noise now.

This isn't nearly as rare as the quote above me, but in July 2010, a Apache attack helicopter flew directly over the house I was staying in at Beadnell, Northumberland. I literally felt the house shake.

Speaking of Apache's I remember one school sports day an Apache came nosing over towards us on the sport field and ended up sitting maybe 100/150 feet up about half a mile or so away and slowly pointing from one end of the field to to the other. I've never been able to shake the feeling that we were being thoroughly strafed with 30mm cannon fire...

Certainly it looked incredibly menacing just sat there for a minute or two before heading back from wherever it came from. The strange part was this was in West Yorkshire not far from Pontefract and I'm not sure there are any Army Air Corps units based near there!

Oh, I just remembered. I also had a Tornado jet fly right over my head when I was walking down the beach on the same holiday. One of the loudest things I've ever been subjected to!

The USAF used to use the South Norfolk Police Headquarters in Wymondham as a target for bombing runs, according to somebody I knew who used to see them flying low over it...

I remember being on spice island, old Portsmouth one Sunday morning years ago, and a police launch and QHM were marshalling traffic, with ferries hanging back, then suddenly a harrier came through the harbour mouth at not much more then the height of the round tower, swooped up, victory roll and then came and hovered in the basin of the harbour mouth. Portsmouth, well the bit where I live anyway, is right on the flight path for LGW approaching from Spain and America, and the take off path from BOH, although the minimum height is about 10,000 sadly!

Near where the 3 ridings meet
We get Choppers of all types especially Military flying past us often at about 250 - 300ft.
They tend to use the York ring road as a navigation guide and follow it and the A59 / A1 enroute to Dishforth or elsewhere.
Night time has brought about the sight of a chopper flying along and stopping at the main signs and using its spotlight to check where they are.
Anything between single choppers and up to 20 in one pass.

I used to live in lincolnshire, there was always something about, an AWAC, The red arrows, or even a low flying lancaster circling Lincoln Cathederal.

I am located right underneath the flight path into Liverpool John Lennon International. I have gotten pretty used to it by now, although at my school, they are even lower and more noticeable but they are only the boring stuff like B737's and A320's.

It is a little dull. Not sure where you are but you do get the occasional Hawk, Tornado or Typhoon fly down the Mersey. I even see the occasional Chinook fly over ours. Would love to know what they are up to.

the north west air ambulance use a field in my local park to land on to transfer people to the hospital not that far from me

just the other week I had an air ambulance fly really low over my house whilst I was out in the garden cleaning my bike . Jumped on my bike and rode to the park and there it was .

They have landed a Chinook in there before as well although I was on holiday when that happened . That might have been a scary experience having that fly over .

Seem to be getting very lucky with flypasts at the moment.

I've just got off a North TPE service at Stalybridge that was treated to the sight of the visiting Lancaster bomber just after leaving Standedge Tunnel. She was taking a very low flight over the hills and into the valley - over flew the train and then parrleled the railway briefly. A truly great sight - just wish I'd been quick enough to get a picture!

She's coming up to Glasgow Prestwick Airport for the Scottish Airshow on the weekend of 6th -7th September. The Vulcan, the BBMF, the Hawker Sea Fury and the PBY Catalina will also be making a appearance. That's something I simply can't miss.

That sounds pretty cool. Especially the Vulcan!

When at a festival near Westbury last year we were treated to a very low pass by an RAF Puma over the camping area - I think the helicopter must have been no more than 10-15 metres above the ground.

As it flew over at 11:00 it woke everyone up, suffice to say.

At the same festival, at around 22:00 I also saw a Chinook take off in an adjacent field.

Now Chinooks make a hell of a sound when they are being quiet. :D

Not sure mate. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight should have been over Northern Ireland, Bristol and Blackpool this weekend. Recently in Sunderland though
