I've not actually flown since way back in 2007 so you don't need to rush to be up to date ;)

I don't actually know what my next one will be, chances are the better half will want to go to AMS, but then I have to decide between EasyJet, British Airways, FlyBE and KLM....

I'm off to Amsterdam in October. Would have loved to have gone KLM but they stopped flying from Liverpool. As such it is Easyjet to Amsterdam, Thalys to Antwerp, train to Brussels, Eurostar to London and Pendo to Liverpool. Bit of a mad day trip as a treat for my dad.

Well here's a good one for you to look at for a little trip, Singapore Airlines Manchester to Munich on a 777, daily I think. Am going to be looking at doing it in the near future but not properly looked up the details yet.

Ooooooh, I like the sound of that! :D

I think it's most likely my next flight will be to Norway in November, going over with a colleague for a 40th birthday bash and looking forward to my first visit to Norway!

Its a 777-300 as well, I've only been on the 200 so would quite like to give it a go. Another interesting one but a bit more expensive would be to get to Madrid and then on an LAN 787 to Frankfurt (Used to be an A340 ). Obviously you could do it the other way, Get to Frankfurt and fly to Madrid. Flying short haul in Europe on a South American widebody. I think that is daily as well.

Jealous about Norway, my brother has been a number of times and loved it.

My next booked flight is London to Berlin with BA in May next year (Group booking for WGT) - May try and squeeze in a Glasgow day trip before the end of the year money permitting (which would bring my total to 10 trips this year)

Blimey mate, thats good going. Not flown since Heathrow to Manchester following a flight from Buenos Aires in 2012. Flights planned to Amsterdam from Liverpool and London to Hangzhou on China Southern which is very exciting.

Anyone who fancies "dipping a toe in the water" or should that be Air, FLYBE have got a sale on at the moment.

Flights from Birmingham to Edinburgh for example, available from £23 odd quid :p

Airbus and Rolls Royce have just launched the A330neo - which will probably be replacing the A350-800 (which has only gained about 20 orders)

They seem to be going after the Dreamliner, offering better fuel economy per seat for the same seating capacity, though not being able to match the Dreamliners range while doing so.

I guess the thing is that a number of operators that have bought the 787 are using it on routes that an A330 can already do. I am thinking of Thomson and Norwegian for example. If they can get better fuel economy than a 787 and can fill the seats then why not use an A330 NEO if they don't need the range. I think the manufacturers don't seem to be going for direct competition these days, more hoping that their aircraft will find a more lucrative niche market.

If the A330 NEO can do Buenos Aires to Auckland more economically than the 787 then why should Aerolineas Argentinas buy the 787 unless it is cheaper just because it can fly further.

It also fills the large gap between the A321 and A350-900 (which is 777 sized) - it seems to be a pretty low cost project (basically fitting an A330 with modified 787 engines and new winglets) so they don't need to sell that many for a return on their investment.

Edit: They've announced orders for 110 so far.

Another for the long haul family. It will be interesting to see how this one does.

Boeing have got there 777x project in the works, with 216 orders placed. As you'd expect, Emirates have a fair few of these orders, but so do Lufthansa I was interested to see - not a current user of the 777.

Boeing will be busy, as they have about 1000 orders of the 787 Dreamliner to fulfill. And for the short haul market they have the 737 MAX project under development, with nearly 2000 orders already.

And I'm fuming I can't afford to book owt, £23 is a bargain for that route. Always seems to be decent offers on air and rail fares when I can't afford to book!

Mate you never know what is around the corner. I was between jobs when I last found the opportunity to fly around the world, and I certainly didn't see it coming. I felt awkward telling friends that knew I was out of work that I was getting off for 7 1/2 months.

Fair play, that's a good point fowler9. Things may get better soon, indeed I hope they do before my target for it. Got until the end of August to get it done, fingers crossed!

And no, for now I'm not publically saying what's going on! When it's all confirmed, and if it's good news then I'll happily talk about it!

Scheduled to catch the 1140 but it was delayed by 2 hours...caught the 0840 which left at Noon !!!

There was a problem with a broken down Aircraft by all accounts.

Once on board The Embraer 175 (Not 195 ) hammered down in 45 mins

Unless something goes awry you will pre-clear as all EI flights are now scheduled to pre-clear in Dublin. Your bags will be checked through so you don't need to collect them in DUB but you will be required to identify them with US officials, they will show you an image.

You should follow the signs for transfer in T2, do not go to the exit. Depending on your layover time you might need to go straight to the US pre-clearance, 1h30 before departure would be as late as I'd reccomend. They generally process flights individually so if yours hasn't been called yet don't be concerned. If you want something to eat do that first as there is not much choice at the gates beyond US border and you are not allowed back into the main terminal area.

Apart from that it is just the same as US Customs/Immigration across the pond, they are the same humourless asshats so make sure you follow all the rules to the letter, oh and don't bring fruits, etc to eat on the plane as once past the check you are officially entering US.

It is a bit of a faff but is much better than having to queue up for hours and deal with all that after landing. On pre-cleared flights once you land you should be able to just collect your bags and go, they are treated as domestic arrivals.

Just thought that I would feedback my experiences. Luggage was checked through to Chicago and pre customs at Dublin was reasonably smooth for my wife and I. We needed all of the 2 hours to go through the various checks and interview and I have to say that being a Sunday, the place was rammed. The US official was really friendly and I was suitably impressed to see images of our suitcases on the screen. However, there was a downside.
One of my friends luggage did not show on the screen and was lead away for questioning. The US officials were pretty abrubt with her and any others who were lead away for questioning. Her luggage has not yet materialized after two days but I suppose that luggage can go missing at any airport
The US officials appear to have access to the British databases because somebody was helback for not stating that he had had a misdemeanor in Blighty. My advice to anybody is to be trueful when applying thru ESTA.

Many thanks for the assistance on here and flying Aer Lingus was a pleasant experience. If you can book well in advance, then Aer Lingus via Dublin is worth considering to New York, Boston and Chicago. You arrive in the USA as a domestic arrival. That can save you 2 hours.

I had a couple of hours at Frankfurt Airport last week, while on a mini tour of the region, here's a couple of videos I shot that may be of interest:

Brilliant footage. I particularly liked the Lufthansa A346, my favourite. The 744's and MD-11's were nice to. All fun to watch though.

That is a shame. It looks really good.

It doesn't open a lot in Winter anyway, and from what I've heard the terrace is getting a bit of a makeover with additional facilities for visitors, so next year it should be even better.

It's a Dreamlifter - Boeing's version of the Airbus Beluga - probably fetching 787 parts from Italy if it's over the UK.

I had a daytrip to The Shetlands today , interesting combination of aircraft.

On the way out it was a small Dornier (about 30 seats) and on the way back a Saab 2000 (54 seats).

Loganair who operate the service on behalf of Flybe provide a far superior service than their parent, in the form of free refreshments and hold luggage.

These "old bangers" they fly may be a little long in the tooth , but they both offered more space and a more comfortable seat than the Bombardier Dash or Embraer variants that ply most Flybe routes.

The Saab even had ashtrays....ah the memories :p
