The best thing to do is contact one of the rail plant companies such as Txm, Quattro and Readypower. Most of them have their own in house training centres.

No problem, be aware though 90% of the work is at weekends (mostly Saturday night) and nearly all drivers are on zero hours contracts, working in other jobs mon-Fri. Pay is £20-25 per hour.

thanks, txm got back to me today. emailed me a load of things not got my head round it all yet.
but looks interesting. don't mind weekend work or nights. like i said ive been stuck in a waste transfer station for 15 years, never even had a cpcs ticket. but got that now, and i'm currently doing site work. not been on a building site for about 18 years. but i seem to be doing ok. i fancied the railway because i no they use grabs and i no i'm the dogs nuts with the grab lol.

Yes you're right mate , a lot of the work is using grab type attachments. Sometimes you get to a job and there are 5-6 attachments and you have to be able to pipe them up yourself so take a tub of wipes cause hydraulic oil gets everywhere. You do get some interesting jobs especially maintenance work with network rail. Best of luck with it mate.

can i just ask one more question, i recieved all the info from txm, but going through it all, it seems like they are only after weekend workers? i don't mind weekends at all. but they saying you would have to be free for 40 weekends a year. and if for some reason you can't do one weekend they would want there training money back.

I would try Quattro plant mate, I don't think they have a time limit on when training costs need to be repayed. Not sure whether they've changed since becoming txm but when they were hydrex they were a pretty bad company to work for. Also I beleive txms training yard is in portishead and quattros is near Lichfield, which is something to bear in mind as you would need to be there for a couple of weeks.
