Hi there,

Recently whilst passing Tyne Yard, I have noticed a lot more 'action' going on in the south end of the yard. I know by living near and using it as a great spot to photograph the ECML that recently it has been upgraded in the scope of security gates going up, I was just wondering what is going on with it and does anyone know what it's future has in store?

I'm aware of its freight movements there or thereabouts and its overnight cleaning of some XC stock but does anyone know anything else?

Thanks in advance.

The extra 'action' is because engineering trains (including an HOBC) are
once again based there, as there wasn't enough capacity at Doncaster or
Carlisle.

The trains themselves work overnight, but there are 'feeder' services
during the day between Tyne yard and Doncaster, Carlisle and Millerhill,
plus a regular delivery of ballast from Mountsorrel quarry.

Thanks Mark.

I did notice some works trains and they're heading out at night off down the sunderland line either to Tyne Dock or Hartlepool perhaps?
