If you happen to come up with any helpful information regarding my questions I'd be interested to know but until then I'll remain unconvinced :)

321 I'm on tonight is in need of a bit of TLC - side panels coming apart from each other, transformer is really noisy and the seats are quite muddy (seriously who puts muddy shoes on the seats for goodness sake) and some ground in stains and cigarette butts on the floor. Nonetheless it's departed on time and I am seated, pleasantly warm as the heating is working pretty well. Not a great deal to complain about so far, but I did overhear an announcement about the 1900 to Norwich being cancelled as I departed Liverpool Street., owing to hitting some sort of obstruction on the track at Manningtree.
Apart from the fact this'll be another 50p/mile trip I'm still fairly content for now.

Oh for those keeping tabs I'm in the MSO of 304.

You should have left an hour earlier. 1738 LST to IPS was 4 car instead of 12 and it missed 4 stations, leaving hundreds late home. Still delays at Witham and between Colchester and Manningtree, though the latter was caused by some mindless idiot putting a concrete block on the track.

Not having read this thread completely, but just wondering how the offspring of our national pride (Dutch national railways) is doing across the pond. I know they get a 7 out of 10 from 77% of the travelers in The Netherlands this year with 90.9% of the trains running on time. How would you rate Abellio?

Meanwhile on the joint worst provider Southeastern tonight at Maidstone West an apology for a train 2 mins late.

How the joint worst off are better off than other joint worst off.

You have to admire this selective reporting. Apparently Cannon St has been closed today resulting in numerous Southeastern cancellations (assuming you can believe what you read on this forum).

Meanwhile on the other joint worst provider Greater Anglia this morning delivered me into Liverpool St a minute early :D

If you happen to come up with any helpful information regarding my questions I'd be interested to know but until then I'll remain unconvinced :)

You'll remain unconvinced in that case ;)

Sadly Dutch Railways are not a patch on the late 1970s and 1980s. The infrastructure seems more reliable than ours, although the chaos a few years ago when Utrecht signal box had a fire was up to anything we can achieve. Externally trains can be quite dirty, but internally usually reasonably clean.

As for calling the North Sea a pond.......:)

Discounted fare? Please explain. AGA contribute to the government, we don't have subsidies. Which is part of the reason why we are angry our services are so poor.

The AGA business needs to make a profit as a whole, problem is they have or did have loss leading rural lines, in order to make the profit fares have to be higher on busier lines

C2C don't suffer this problem hence the fare per mile is cheaper

FYI, Norfolk Council did help subsidise some rural lines although this may have stopped or funding has been cut

Considering the number of trains they run, both on a per hour and fleet size basis, surely they don't require much subsidising compared to the revenues from the rest of the franchise?

Lovely manoeuvre by greater anglia to try and avoid a cancellation stat.

Sorry but that is totally ill informed nonsense.

One might also call it, you know, useful, that a train service still ran, even if being short formed. It seems a little presumptive to think that such services are purely the operator trying to dodge a reported cancellation!

They ran a 12 coach Ipswich last night ad a 4 car. Standing room only.

What happened to cause such a drastic short form?

Presumptive? Perhaps!

Hmm, choice between 321321 on its own for the 3:55 to Southend or a pair of 360s on the 4:02 to Ipswich, also populated with a lot of passengers who would otherwise have been on the 4:00 to Norwich, again cancelled due to a train fault. Whatever is said about the other GEML services there's no denying I'd be pretty dissatisfied if I had to use the train from Norwich to London often.
Pretty much standing room only on the 4:02 now 5 minutes before departure but I'm again seated having boarded just about early enough - had to use the front unit though.

Incidentally, anyone know why the 379 further down was showing 'BT cabin' on the destination display at the front?

Yeah, that's not how cancellation stats work. Learn how the railway works before insulting others, please.

(If you're interested, a train is cancelled if one stop is cancelled. So missing stops is only performed if it's required to get the service running to some level of sanity, since it carries the penalty of a cancellation.)

The 17.38 Liverpool St to Ipswich is formed by empties from Ilford Car Sheds. If a unit fails to come off maintenance on time for whatever reason this train is usually the first to be short formed (it is 8 v 12 tonight). Don't know about last night but if a unit goes sick at the last minute there is no scope to recover.

Lovely misquote there - the nonsense was regarding the cost structure of the franchise.

I'm confused. Are you actually complaining that a service was short formed but still ran vs being totally cancelled?

Browsing imgur's 'most viral' category as I do, amongst all the usual cat/dog pictures you have to sift through, amazingly enough, this came up!

Gave me quite a shock seeing that there. 800,000 views and nearly 200 comments ain't bad :)
Remind me, who was this originally?

Meeting agenda and terms of reference being written now for our meeting in Jan to discuss the Anglia Franchise.

Buy a car did not make our original draft all.

Thanks for those who have been in touch. Date and venue will be sent when arranged soon plus agenda and our our draft terms of reference for comment.

Unlike Abellio we aim to be a democratic organisation to improve the woeful state of railways in Anglia.

For the fans of class 90s and 317 and 321s don't bother to look further.

For those who want to help us improve get in touch.

Lost somewhere within Bank-Monument tube station,
Instead of constantly bitching about the operator, why not instead campaign for better infrastructure along the GEML? Campaign for 4 tracking between Colchester and Shenfield (although admittedly, there is the problem of the Chelmsford bottleneck to deal with), and up to date signalling and wires. Once the Anglia franchise actually has up to date infrastructure, then things will improve markedly. At the moment, it's barely able to cope with the amount of traffic using the line.

All that's gonna happen by getting rid of the older stock and Abellio is that the new stock will end up getting delayed in the same places due to the infrastructure not being able to cope, and the poor new operator will end up getting it in the neck from people who obviously have an axe to grind.

As I say often, there's a lot of people in the North who'd gladly take the 317s and 321s to get rid of their Pacers. Stop assuming that you've got it worst at the moment, because you most certainly haven't.

An upgrade of the GEML has been discussed already with MPs and our contact within NR.

We believe that an enhanced GEML will still be useless with the current provider and are determined to make a change.

It wouldn't matter whether NX, First, Stagecoach, Govia, Abellio, MTR or Arriva ran the franchise, it would still suffer infrastructure problems and still be running with the same fleet! Firstly, the infrastructure issues are Network Rail's responsibility, and secondly, no company would bid for (what was originally) a 19 month franchise with a pledge to introduce, say, 200 new 4 car trains to replace all of the class 317, 321 and 360 fleets! That was what Abellio bid for the franchise on - a 19 month franchise, and ultimately these issues can be attributed to the DfT for awarding such a short franchise in the first place. Between February 2012 and November 2013 they did make improvements, although I would agree Abellio are now past their sell by date and are simply marking time until a new longer term franchise begins.

Also, the consultation is not asking for views on which company should run the franchise, it is asking for feedback on customer priorities and suggested service improvements which are of relevance to customers. At the end of the day, any comments such as '' we wish to have the franchise removed from Abellio'' or suchlike in the consultation responses will simply be ignored because it depends on the quality of the individual bids.

Can I ask, Wayneh in particularly but also any others: if Abellio were to produce and win with an outstanding bid for the Anglia franchise from 2016, with new trains, refurbishments, timetable enhancements and so on, as they did for the ScotRail franchise, would you still be against them?

The people of Scotland through the Scottish Herald are already giving their views of the DfT decision.

They are citing Greater Anglia and the current joint farce with Serco known as Northern.

We have many contacts in Abellio, Network Rail and Anglian MPs.

There is a acceptance that a change of provider will be beneficial.

In a democratic society there are voices for and against. I see it my role to provide a conduit for debate as we go through this process.

It is worth noting that our contacts in Network Rail are increasingly resentful of Abellio taking money from them for compensation and keeping it, unless the service is 30 mins plus late,

Contrast that to NX and their 5 min compensation policy speaks volumes on the cultures of both providers.

My understanding was that the 2 minute refund system from c2c would only come into action in 2016 and offer 3p per minute off, which for a 25 minute delay, wouldn't exactly be a lot. Of course, getting the refund automatically rather than having to go through tedious postal processes is a landmark step forward, but even so - compared to the half-refund for a 30 minute delay, it's not a great deal.

I've taken an active interest in this because even though there are plenty of problems the line would have with any operator, I share some of the concern about how the current TOC are operating the franchise. It doesn't need to be quite this bad, in my opinion.

It's a pity that some members of the "Improve AGA" campaign have been tweeting and re-tweeting staff members mobile phone numbers (also on their Facebook group) and the number of the control room whilst they were dealing with a person hit by a train.

How did they get access to this information do you reckon?

How did they get access to this information? Got any links to this being done?

I've seen Jamie Burles' and Jonathon Denby's numbers being shared on Twitter but none from control...

I won't repeat the links on here as it could publicise numbers further. However, I'm aware of the Managing Directors work number (since changed) , the Head of Corporate affairs work mobile on a mock poster and the control room information desk getting several postings. A search through twitter may reveal more.

Some of the information might be from current/former members of staff but it certainly isn't impressive and disturbing for those involved.

Same thing happened when Tim Clarke was MD of 'one' with hate mail & very nasty Birthday cards to his home address. We've seen it all before.

I have never and would never advocate publishing of direct numbers.

Accountable Chief Execs should publish them. Read Tom Peters "In Search of Excellence"
