Bristol West Guards sign:

Bristol to Cardiff via Severn Tunnel.
Bristol to Chelthenham vis Gloucester and avoider, plus Alstone and High Street sidings.
Bristol to Taunton via Weston Super Mare and avoider.
Bristol to Westbury

Westbury to Weymouth via Frome and avoider.
Westbury to Portsmouth via Southampton and Eastleigh, Hedge End.

Gloucester to Swindon via Kemble.

Traction: 150/153/158/159 and technically 143.

Earliest Monday to Friday start is 0459, latest off is 0042
Earliest Satuday is 0425, off at 0145
Earliest Sunday is circa 0600, off 0145.

Salary is as stated, but you can easily earn over £40,000 with a little RDW, Sunday work.

Long weeks of 11 RDs in a block every 6 weeks. On average two RDs per week.

Early link is full and only on depot seniorty, the main link is mixed but swaps to earlies and lates are easy to come by.

Once you've had and passed the phone interview, it's circa four weeks until the formal assessment day then circa another three to four weeks until the manager interview.

Which depot have you applied for ?

Train Manager also being advertised (internally at least) for Bristol and Reading, not checked whether it's up externally or not. Sensible max earnings in the region of £35k-ish, depending on depot. Over £40k is a tad ambitious I'd have said, unless in one of the early links and selling £000's in tickets every week. No more 143s at Bristol thankfully. Fratton soon to also sign the Melksham branch and Chippenham - Bristol via Box. Reading work 165/166 & 150/0.

Bristol technically sign 143s, I did £41,000 and I do 95% late turns ;)

The TM bristol roles are internal only as per harmonisation.

Reading has a small link of TMs yes.

You must be hammering the overtime or the tix! (or both :D ).

143s are no longer (currently) part of Bristol West traction knowledge; some existing Guards may well have retained them but certainly I wouldn't expect new entrants to be required to sign (unless there is a plan to reintroduce them to the area).

TM is a funny one, harmonisation stated preferably from Conductor grade but recruitment could go external if no suitable candidates available. And indeed it has done, within the last couple of years some intakes have included externals, so this round of recruitment could potentially be advertised depending on who applies through the internal channels..watch this space!

I will be surprised if there are any suitable Conductors left if they all get the role of trainee train driver most have applied for.

After going through the course myself and seeing plans both in the training school and talk in the DM's office, pretty confident that 80% of the guards that successfully pass all stages of the application process will find themselves on a course within the next 24 months.

I like to help out (PNBs are goldern though):D

Yep regards 143s.

They're finding recent TM intakes have been jumping across the to the blue shirts pretty quick though, some with less than 12 months in the role.

Yep. They'll send you a pack with information regarding the tests and some practise materials. Just work through it all and wait for the day to arrive!

They asked me 4 questions about customer service, including a time when you delivered great customer service, when you had to get yr point across when someone didn't understand you, when you went the extra step, sorry can't remember the last one, they told me to check my email for the outcome which would be a few weeks but they told me the next day that I had passed, good luck
