Hi all, due to start my training on the 13 April. First have sent me a temporary travel pass until I am issued with my permanent pass-a Standard Class Special Travel Pass.
Anyway the conditions of use stipulate-and this was highlighted in my letter that:-

This Standard Class Special Travel Pass is NOT valid for:
RESIDENTIAL USE between the named holder or any Bearers home address and regular place of work.

So if I am reading this correctly, I cannot use this to go to work from home? Anyone else had this recently? I am going to ring First on Tuesday anyway but I am a little confused by being issued a pass that I cannot use.

Dave, I haven't moved yet so yes. It seems strange that according to the conditions I can go on a jolly to Bristol but I can't use it to go to work!!

I had the same issue & hr sent me an email to confirm it was valid, which I retained in case of need. I am sure you will have no problems your proper pass will turn up in a few weeks

Thanks for that, will do the same and get a confirmation email-I dont want to end up being investigated for misconduct because I didnt have a valid pass on my first day of work!

This is very likely a duty travel only pass. This will only entitle you to travel between your home depot and a training location or other sites used during your training. PLEASE, PLEASE under no circumstances use this ticket to get you to work...

Can you use the pass to travel from home depot to training centre though?

As the pass is worded, no you can't, but all staff are aware of the mistake with the wording so the pass will be accepted without question

I have used the same pass/letter from my home and there wasn't a problem, I even asked before boarding if it was valid and all TM's said it was.

There are tax implications of being given free travel to work. A P11D should be issued by the employer on which the employee pays tax and NIC. unless the employer pays this for you with the added on costs.

This used to apply to higher employees. (HMRC define this as £8,500!) but will soon apply to all.
