Been trying to sort out best route / timings / price for Nuneaton to Carlisle on 18th July for the open day. Trying to grab a couple of hours at Crewe on the way up if possible. Been struggling to arrange the journey any help would be appreciated. One adult with no railcard.

Thanks Mark

There £7 Nuneaton-Crewe Advance tickets for a number of departures up to 10am. There's an £18 Carlisle-Nuneaton Advance on the 1910 (change at Birmingham). The expensive bit seems to be Crewe-Carlisle, with Advances at £30 on the hourly trains at the times you are likely to be travelling.

Thanks for the advise , after playing around with times I managed to plan these trains

07.12 Nuneaton - Crewe 08.30 £ 7.00
10.09 Crewe - Preston 10.51 £10.00
10.58 Preston - Carlisle 12.05 £11.30

15.39 Carlisle - Preston 16.48 £10.20
17.17 Preston - Crewe 17.58 £10.00
18.22 Crewe - Nuneaton 19.35 £ 7.00

Total £55.50

Using National Rail enquiries site similar times without extra time at Crewe is £68.85

Thanks Mark

Be very careful with that connection at Preston as the 10:09 off Crewe is almost always late.

I have a spare ticket for the DRS open day if anyone wants it and is around any of the stations / changes I have listed.

And PRE has an 8 minute connection time, so you're not covered for a delay.

The extra £2 for an offpeak day return PRE-CAR would give you flexibility and save changing trains (buy in advance!).
