Southern using agency staff for safety critical roles? That's a bit odd!

Dispatch jobs at Wivelsfield ? Seems like a small station to warrant dispatch staff, similarly for Preston Park.

I couldn't understand the times for the roles- 09.30 - 01.30

Why would you need these staff from 9.30am to either 1.30pm or am?

01.30 is 01.30, 1.30pm would be 13.30.

Perhaps there is a Southern member of staff there to cover an early shift (or another agency worker) then the agency do the afternoon/evening!

The only thought we have had is to be able to run 12 cars DOO on the main line without having to update any platform equipment. None of these stations have dispatch staff, in fact sometimes they have no staff once the ticket office closes.

* yes I know TL does run some 12 car trains that stop, but thats a whole new kettle of fish and I'm not going there on here.

So the hiring of these staff is effectively a stopgap until they can get the equipment put in ? If so, its a bit naughty saying they are permanent roles if they clearly arent.

Also, will these staff simply only dispatch 12-car services or just all of them ?

That's happened a couple of times with permanent and agency roles recently - platform staff opportunities at odd locations randomly appearing and disappearing on websites for a day or two. Eridge was the most obscure one (but understandable if the extended platform has a big curve round the buildings, as you'd then need dispatchers 4x an hour in the morning and 2x an hour in the evening for longer peak trains.).
