For 27 August, Virgin East Coast are offering a one way advance purchase fare of £67.60 from Inverkeithing to London Kings Cross. There are reductions on this fare, if you have a senior or young person railcard.

For 1 September, Virgin East Coast offer a one way advance purchase of £104.50 from Kemble to Inverkeithing. You travel via Gloucester and Birmingham. Again, reductions for certain railcards.

If you register with VirginEast coast, you can collect points if you are a Nectar scheme member. And Virgin East Coast offer a 5% reduction on certain of their fares, provided you book via their own Virgin East Coast.

Do other forum members have a better fare alternatives ?

Cheaper and flexible:

Inverkiething-London Super Off Peak Return @ £140
Kemble-London Super Off Peak Single @ £26.40
Oyster or Contactless Tube transfer Paddington-Kings Cross £2.30 (IIRC)

Alternatively, if travel via Gloucester and Birmingham is more convenient for the return, a Kemble-Birmingham Off Peak Single is £29.30. The return half of the Inverkiething-London ticket is then valid for the remainder of the journey from Birmingham to Glasgow and on.

Super Off Peak Return Inverkeithing - Slough Any Permitted 145.00

NRE shows Slough - Inverkeithing via Kemble as a permitted route.

Interesting. Inverkeithing - Swindon is undoubtedly permitted as the OP intended. A ticket via the cheaper route and an excess for the more expensive route comes out at about £177.

If NRE says the Slough ticket is valid via Kemble then I say go for it.
