Weird train-related dreams

I had a strange one a few nights ago, but it was bus-related (if that's allowed)...

I dreamt that I was on a First Glasgow Volvo Citybus (last two examples withdrawn from Glasgow in July 2009) which was decked out in the 'Olympia' livery, had a fully refurbished interior with leather seats with free WiFi equipped throughout and it was on a full-length 1 to Balloch.

There's just one glaring problem with that dream...
The Kilbowie Rd railway bridge in Clydebank and the pedestrian overpass in the Vale of Leven District General Hospital complex in Alexandria are both too low for deckers of any kind to safely pass under and the former has decapitated quite a few deckers over the past few years.

Why I had this dream, I really don't know...

Hope you were on the lower deck, before your bus was converted into a single decker at a stroke (or should that be strike?)

Had yet another weird train dream.

I was boarding the next train towards Central London at Shenfield. I managed to get on the train to Enfield Town via Theobald's Grove.

Something was not right, I thought, because there are no direct services between Shenfield and Enfield Town. I assume that it must've been a branch line. I got off at Theobald's Grove and waited for the Overground service.

And I think AGA was still running those services because the trains were at a horrific state.

One of my earliest and most vivid dreams:

I was standing at Platform 1 at Gloucester Road (the District Line one), looking outwards (towards Earls Court). However, there were no tunnels and the station opened up to a large junction. There were platforms behind the wall which only had canopies on them, leading into a different tunnelled section, in the nearest of which a CIG in NSE livery was waiting and through which in a further a 442 was passing. Turning back, behind the disused "art" platform, was a single line along which 2 Class 60s were trundling. The dream ended as an HST pulled into the platform from the South Kensington direction.

Another one - I was at Shepreth station and it was very packed for a suburban station with an infrequent service. The next service was to Doncaster in 2 hours' time.

I overheard the commuters saying that they will take the train to Doncaster and change for Kings Cross services, rather than waiting for a direct train.

I dreamt that Silverstone was hosting a train race - there was an InterCity 125, a Dash 9 and a ATW Pacer... that somehow won.

A Pacer has a frame designed for the High Speed Freight Vehicle. I bet it could win as it's better at accelerating too.

I only tend to have train-related dreams after browsing the forum late at night ;) I did have a dream/mild nightmare about a week ago where I woke up (in my dream) and realised I'd missed the train from Lime Street to Manchester Airport by about an hour and hence my flight would be missed and hence a panic. When I woke up (in real life) it took a moment to realise I didn't actually have a train to catch at all.

I was also on a late night Lincoln-Sheffield service a couple of months ago, absolutely knackered, and fell asleep ahout halfway there. I dreamt someone was trying to wake me up... before jolting awake to the guard at Sheffield telling me it's time to get off

London, Surrey... bit of a blur round here...
So, there I was on a train, travelling between Exeter Central and Exeter St David's, to go beyond in the Plymouth direction, meaning that, of course, the train changed direction at EXD.

But for some reason, I was sitting right at the front of the train, so could see where we were going. (Also, for some reason, this was actually the back of the train, and it would be reversing everywhere). There were people everywhere, and this gentleman made an appearance ("The number of people on the tracks / is too damn high").

So, as we were pulling into the station, somehow I ended up on the outside of the train - possibly because I knew that I had to move out of the driver's seat, a la DLR - and it was actually an HST (but with passenger accommodation in the leading (reversing?) vehicle), and as the train pulled into a stop, the momentum made me slide off the front of the train.

Anyway, had to reboard the train, and at this moment, I noticed that it was an EMT HST (or at least, my dream's interpretation of it) ("Oh, they're using the EMT Hire-in today"). Unperturbed by this, I went to reboard, only the platform at EXD wasn't long enough, so the coach I had to board was off the platform. Several people had opened their doors (it was also a Southern region slam-door train, of course) to make sure I was okay after falling off the front of the train, but none of them helped me to get back on, and closed their doors as I tried.

So I ignored the no-entry signs on the doors, opened one (the handle was actually the no-entry sign, which I thought was a good touch), and climbed aboard. As I searched for a seat, a gentleman told me that the power sockets were only working in the front two seats, which were somehow empty, but for once I wasn't after one.

Then I woke up.

Nightmare last night, still trying to shake it off! I'd gone to the loo on the other side of the bridge at Hereford station and come back. A few minutes before my train was due I realised I didn't have my bag with my tickets and everything else in, and couldn't remember where I'd left it.

I was dashing everywhere, and even got a member of station staff involved. Desperately running out of time I was searching in the flowerbeds on the platform, when I heard a phone ringing, and there was my bag hidden in the undergrowth on the wrong side of the bridge, just as my train pulled in.

I don't know whether I caught it as I woke up then in a cold sweat! I know the reason - I left my bag in a shop the other day and was very lucky it was still there when I went back, and also I had an early start this morning for a day trip to Cleethorpes (from Southport) so was worried about missing my train to Manchester!

Another weird one - all of Virgin's Pendolinos were taken out of service (for unknown reasons) and they were forced to hire in sets of Pacers (in sets of five). They had a normal Pendo interior, though...

I dreamt I was taking my regular journey on a Northern train from Hindley to Manchester Victoria.

The conductor never appeared, then when I got to the ticket seller on the barrier in Manchester, I was very tired (even though I was on my way out shopping) and feeling stressed and my dog had died three months ago and the nasty man was intimidating and racist to me. So I forgot where I had boarded the train and bought a ticket from Parbold. Thereby paying significantly more for my journey than I needed to.

That'll teach me not to read the Disputes & Prosecutions forum at bedtime!

Apparently, the Bakerloo line had Fratton, Peterborough, Upminster, Canary Wharf and one unnamed terminus station in London.

I was waiting for a Bakerloo line train to Peterborough, but all that came was a District Line train to Barking and the second half of the train was destroyed.

I have been following this thread with interest.
I well remember 3 dreams about trains that I want to share with you. Two of them seem to have been a little prophetic:

In the mid 1980s, I used to go for days out with my grandad on the train a lot. He worked on the railways as a shunter during WW2. Most of the time, we travelled on first generation DMUs.
During 1984, I dreamt that I was walking past my local station. The platforms were at ground level and the trains travelled on the opposite side of the track to reality. In the dream, new very noisy DMUs with dark blue in their livery and front gangway connections were pulling away from the station. I have no doubt that what I saw were 150/2s which carried such a livery from new, but they only entered service around two years later.

In 1994 at the same station, I dreamt that I was waiting of the Manchester train. Class 142, 142046 showed up. It stopped at the station. Before I had chance to board it, my attention was drawn to a fast approaching express train headed with a Class 37. There was going to be a collision, but I woke up in a state of shock before it happened in the dream. This has some similarities to the Winsford crash of 23rd June 1999 involving Class 87, 87027 and Class 142s 142003 and 142008, which wrote off the latter.

The third dream was a few years ago. I was travelling on a 150/2 through the Woodhead tunnel after the line had been re-opened. I think that this dream was wishful thinking!

Had 2 weird ones lately:

1). I was waiting at Mile End for a Central Line train on the westbound platform. Instead of my usual train, an empty and dirty train with the livery First Golf Trains appeared. It stopped for a while at the platform and subsequently moved on.

2). This was last night.

I was riding on the Northern Line when the train stopped at Kennington. The things which stuck out at me:

-Kennington had an interchange with the Circle, H&C and Met Lines.
-The next station was Uckfield Heights and in Zone 2.
-Barnet was the next station and was in a "special zone".

Good lord, a train dreams thread! I have them regularly.

There are recurring themes: One when I get on a train and it's laid out really strange, all the seats sticking out at strange angles, and there's no room to walk down the aisle. Another common theme is that the walls or roof of the carriage is missing. There's one where I'm running through a really over-complicated tube station (like an Escher maze) trying to find the right platform.

In last night's one, I was on a train which I don't remember much about, but I remember *feeling* good about it, like it was a really nice train. We stopped in a station and another pulled up alongside, travelling in the opposite direction, only this one was a "Party train!" full of people standing up, drinking and dancing, and with disco lights and loud music. And I think one of the partygoers flashed their lady parts at me and everyone cheered. Then the party train moved off into the night. My train didn't seem so good anymore.

I'm never on the party train. <(
I don't think I would want to be, really.

There's a couple I can remember clearly;

1) Sort of railway related, and weird, late 1999 I had this dream I'd gone to a 6th Form reunion thing and was coming back to Doncaster station afterwards. It ended with me being running over the North Bridge - down the middle of the road on there, which was deserted - and then climbing down through a gap in the wall between the bus station and the railway that wasn't there at the time. A few years later the bridge was done up, traffic diverted & the sides of the bridge removed, forcing people to walk down the middle of the road. There was also a gap in the wall between the bus station and railway line ...

2) Doncaster again, I'm going out with some friends on Christmas day for a ride on a steam train. Platform 4. The whole of the station is covered over, Birmingham New Street style, and before the train arrives some sort of curtain goes down between the through lines & the line on platform 4. The train leaves the station & out into the open air, somewhere over adwick is a large cloud that's obviously a fire of some sort.

London's Zone 2 became bigger, with an extended Overground network.

I got off at Noby, which was a combination of Knightsbridge and Paris. I was staying over at a French couple's house and I was going to talk French with them before I woke up.

I had a really odd rail related dream last night.

I was getting onto the Waterloo & City Line at Waterloo, but the platform layout was that at Bank station. The trains were formed of old stock, that I remember using in the 1970s, only formed of two carriages and there was a rush to get to the correct platform and to get a seat, the train moved off, but then went overground along viaducts, ending up at Maida Vale Station whcih was located along the north side of the Circle & Distric line around Baker Street. I changed platforms a district line train going to Wimbledon appeared, but going eastbound, before going south on a new line from about KX towards Victoria, where it went semi fast to Wimbledon! The old Waterloo East station somehow featured too.

This one felt really weird; I saw Silver Link (the A4 Pacific locomotive) pull a train made of Silverlink (the TOC)'s Class 321s. It was at Stratford, running on the DLR lines, somehow.

Less a train one, more a tram related one. I was walking out of the Wilkinson Street tram depot in Nottingham when I saw one of Metrolink's M5000s moving about in the yard. As if it couldn't get any better, it was fitted with a corridor connection on the front!

Always sticks in my mind that one, very strange! :D

I had one last night, not that I've had one for a while, though it's quite odd that recently I too had one with the Silver A4, can't remember much of it apart from going onto the footplate, I don't recall 321's on it

This one last night was at Waterloo. I was with Yorkie and someone else, who I don't recognize. I went to this TVM to get an advance to Salisbury for tomorrow, only the screen didn't have the usual destinations on it, it just had big yellow boxes for 1 to 6 tickets (it was a touchscreen) so I just pressed 4 tickets (don't know why) and it printed out Waterloo to Salisbury tickets. How the heck it knew where I was going I don't know!

Anyway the tickets only said Waterloo to Salisbury, in the format the tickets are in reality, and to the right it just said 'adv'. I asked Yorkie where does it say that I've booked on the 1920, and he pointed out in the bottom right corner that read 'print 00:23' that basically the ticket inspector would know it's booked for the 1920.....no I don't get it either!

I must add two things:

1. I use the 1920 often to get back to Trowbridge, why I chose 4 tickets to Salisbury I don't know!

2. I remember it costing me £46! Don't know if that's because I purchased 4 tickets?!

Here's another:

I was driving a HST service around Cornwall, when a light aircraft, G-REAT landed on my train's roof. It was piloted by Sir Bob Russell, too.

Okay, a very strange one this and, for the record, I was not under the effects of medical drugs or alcohol...

I once dreamt that I was driving 55015 from Hull to York with a rake of MK IIIs and then back again with Her Majesty as the second man, Adolf Hitler as the guard, the Chuckle Brothers as the ticketing inspectors and Georgina Sherrington as the girl with the trolley. After we got back to Hull, Her Majesty then said she was divorcing Philip, wanted to marry me and we started kissing in the engine room
