In my home town I have noticed over the past few months that traffic is horrendous from about 4pm to after 7pm on a weekday.

I have been wondering if it is anything to do with the local Peak Time afternoon ticketing that was introduced during September last year.

Has anyone else found this in other Greater Manchester towns or West Yorkshire towns?

West Yorkshire can be pretty horrendous at the best of times! In times gone past, it has taken me an hour for me to get from Keighley to Brighouse, then another 40 minutes or so to get where I wanted to in Huddersfield (I was in a van with several deliveries and collenctions in West Yorkshire).

Are you making reference to the late afternoon peak rail borne traffic or the evening peak road traffic in general in your posting?

I think he wonders if change in ticket pricing for trains during the peak diverted people into cars and onto roads, causing more congestion.

If so then you'd expect to see a drop in Northern's passenger numbers. Is there any evidence of this?

I was a full-time student at Manchester University and I noticed a similar pattern prior to 2008(when I left/graduated). Given what else happened that year, it's probably a return to pre-recession traffic levels rather than anything to do with the railways.
