As I have applied to FTPE as a driver, could anyone tell me about the roster pattern? How many weekends must be worked, and what is the days on/off pattern like? And what is the leave situation? I am led to believe leave allocation is pretty good, can you take it when you want (within reason)?

Leave, like all other TOCs and grades, is allocated.

TPE offer 33 days leave, 5 weeks which are allocated in blocks, then 8 'floating' days to be used as and when.
Weekends vary from depot to depot, but are generally worse than other TOCs as Sundays are inside the week. TOCs like Northern have Sundays as compulsory overtime and it can therefore be gotten rid of more easily.
At present, it's something like a 4.25 day week. 5-7 days on, followed by 3-5 days off. No real pattern to it. There's currently a Rest Day Working ban in place, imposed by ASLEF, in an attempt to get onto a 4-day week.

Great, thanx Chris very useful. I like that the shifts are block of days on / block of days off rather than dotted about, but I guess most TOCs work that way. 7 days 'on' sounds tough though.

Re weekends, would you say that with these patterns, you would be just as likely to be working a Sat or a Sun as a Tues or a Weds? So I suppose averaged out over time, you work more weekends than you have weekends off?

They're just live any other day.

My depot you have 9 weekends (Sat AND Sun) off every 23 weeks. This will be slightly different at other locations.
